As we've mentioned several times now, VIZ Media will be releasing the 2nd Naruto OVA on DVD. Now, VIZ Media has announced that they will also be releasing a novelization of that same OVA on October 16, 2007.
Like the previous Naruto novel by VIZ Media, the "Naruto: Mission: Protect the Waterfall Village!" novel will be a translation of an existing Japanese release. Too early for an English cover, but the original Japanese version can be seen below: Official Product Description: Naruto and the gang return home after a stint protecting Shibuki, the leader of Takigakure. But there's danger back in the Village Hidden in the Leaves. Sasuke and Sakura are quickly captured and the tow-headed ninja-wannabe finds himself in a desperate situation. Turning to Shibuki for help, Naruto discovers the revered leader is actually a coward and false hero. Alone, Naruto must protect his home, his friends and the Takigakure's secret potion--the Water of Heroes. A special Naruto adventure previously available only on DVD--now an action-packed novel! First published in Japan on 2003/12/15, the original spanned 228 pages and was released under the JUMP jBOOKS label. VIZ's translation has turned out to an even 200 pages. It's still unknown if the fold-out poster included in the original will be left intact. More information as it becomes available! In 2005 Shueisha also released a 176 page animanga for the OVA. It's unknown if VIZ has obtained the rights to publish/translate this in the United States. No information on an English release of this animanga is available at this time.
