As we posted back in February, VIZ Media will be releasing the 2nd Naruto OVA on DVD. The special will be titled "NARUTO - THE LOST STORY, Mission: Protect The Waterfall Village!" and is due out May 22 of this year. It's worth noting that this will be the first time this special has been made available to the general public, in or out of Japan. Cover art for this release is now available:


Naruto and the others arrive at the Village Hidden in the Waterfall on an escort mission for Shibuki, the village leader. However, the situation changes suddenly when Kakashi must return home on urgent business and the village is attacked. Suien, a former Hidden Waterfall ninja, is one of the attackers, and things take a turn for the worse when the village treasure, the Hero's Water, falls into his hands!

As a special premium, VIZ Media will offer an exclusive Bandai CCG NARUTO trading card and a special, never-before-seen extended trailer for the upcoming NARUTO MOVIE, set to debut theatrically this summer.

Well, it was released in Japan, just not to the general public. In other words, it was never sold in stores and it was never in print for very long.

Subscribers of Weekly Shonen Jump could get it on either VHS or DVD if they sent in a special coupon included in that weeks issue. Shonen Jump would then send back a copy of the special. This is the only way (outside of someone then re-selling it) for fans to get it.

It's never been shown on TV in Japan.

It may have already aired on Cartoon Network in the USA. I could be wrong on that though. I don't have a working TV at the moment (nor do I have the USA version of Cartoon Network), so I can't say for sure. I do remember seeing on some website like Toon Zone that a "Naruto Special" would be airing a while back. I don't know if this was simply 2+ episodes put together, or an actual OVA.

I've also seen Shibuki on one/some of the VIZ CCG cards, so this would further backup the idea that it's already aired in the USA. Putting a character from an "episode" that hasn't even released yet seems a bit odd.

it proably didn't but whoooo knoes? not me a least i had to watch spainish naruto and english(england; yes spain, i watched the OP first hand...*shivers*) i dont think so though cause i have io and record every single episode of naruto on CT... it wasn't there today...(came back today)
