According to Mantanweb, Last week at the Tokyo Anime Fair, Akira Toriyama and Hironobu Sakaguchi arrived to discuss the upcoming Blue Dragon anime series (based off the X Box 360 game of the same name), in which Toriyama commented "This may be my final anime".

"It's troubling, don't you think? (laughs). This may be my final anime, I'm a little worried about it. There's incredible pressure, but at the same time, there's a sense of accomplishment -- that it's worth doing. Blue Dragon will be a masterpiece, not simply because I'm working hard on it, but because the staff is expecting nothing less."
Blue Dragon will begin airing on TV Tokyo on April 7th.

Being based off the game, chances are it will be either a 26 episode series or at a push 50. I don't see how this game could be stretched any longer than that. Concerning an English release, there is a possible chance. Recently the game was announced an English vocal cast with people like Tara Strong (Raven in Teen Titans, Rikku in Final Fantasy X, Omi in Xiaolin Showdown, Bubbles in Powerpuff Girls, Presea in Tales Of Symphonia) and Steve Staley (Toshiro in Bleach, Moondoggie in Eureka Seven, Kadaj in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Neji in Naruto), so to follow suit with the game's release in English it may announce the upcoming Animated series.

Storyline is, if it follows the game exactly:
That every 10 years, a dark purple cloud appears and brings corruption and chaos over the lands. On the day of destruction, the main character Shu and his friends Kluke and Jiro decide to fight against the hour of darkness only to discover a strange machine leading them to a airship. Finding more than they bargained for, the team are told by a mysterious voice to seek out and eat these strange bright orbs. Upon doing so, all three of them develop a brand new power in which their shadows come alive and form into blue beasts. Shu's becomes a Dragon, Kluke's becomes a Phoenix and Jiro's becomes a Minotaur. Using these new powers, they fight the captain called Nene who turns out to be behind the purple cloud attacks. Nene easily beats all three of them revealing he also has a shadow beats but instead of blue, it's purple and almost kills them. Luckily Shu, Kluke and Jiro make it to an escape pod and end up in a brand new land, far from home. Learning that other people are in distress from the purple cloud attacks; Shu, Kluke and Jiro take it upon themselves to save the world using their new powers and beat Nene and along the way they meet new friends and enemies.
Characters are:
Shu: The main character who lives with his grandfather. Black hair in a pony tail, blue vest (black vest in the game) and yellow shorts.

Kluke: Shu's long time friend. Acts mature, almost like the mother of the team. Long brown hair with a yellow bow and a pink dress (black dress in the game).
Jiro: Another childhood friend of Shu. A bit ego centric and is the brains of the team mainly. Short black hair, white under shirt (black undershirt in the game) and green overalls.
Zola: A tough mercenary who likes to keep everything to herself. Black bandanna, blue bra and green shorts.
Marumaro: A cat character from a distant tribe called the Debi. A bit loud and go getting. Yellow in colour, brown hat and red overalls (pink overalls in the game).
Nene: The main bad guy who hails from an ancient race of 10,000 years past. He's old and wears glasses.
On that Anime poster though, there is a new female character wearing bright blue. I have no idea who she is and how she takes part in the plot line. So with the addition of a new character, it's safe to say that the storyline may not follow the game exactly.

Well he never said it was his final Manga right? So there's still hope for more of those. I kinds dont get why every Video game has to become a Anime now but there's still no Metriod or Zelda Animes.

ya exactly theres gonna be 2 people on like @ 1 or 3 or 4 or 5 like u said. Then we wont get to post. The latest he's done it is Midnight my time and I dont know if im going to b up till then and i dont even think im gonna be up hecka early like other people. Oooh i was close. Studio Pierrot have announced that the series will be 51 episodes long. I said 26 or 50.

Also for those interested, Romi Paku is doing the voice of Zola in the Japanese one. Eeeeee! (I'm a Romi Paku fan.)

there was a zelda anime Jerrod, it sucked. It gave link a really horrible voice and gave us some of the corniest lines of all time.

That was a cartoon, not an Anime. It was America's decision to make a Zelda cartoon with no help or coordination with Nintendo. America hoped to make a successful cartoon to run along the games for the NES but after 16 episodes, the series flopped and was canceled.

I just hope this isn't his final anime. I mean the guy is a icon in the anime industry. I really think he should do at least two or so more anime before he gives up doing anime.
