I finally got my copy of the DBZ Season 1 box set today. I've already watched episode 1, but I've still yet to fully experience the DVDs in "the way it was meant to be seen" (our house is currently TV-less, so I watched it on the computer). 900 minutes of action, and yet another quote from the guys over at Anime Insider on the back:
I'm definitely interested in doing SOMETHING with this release here on MFG, assuming theres some interest. What would you guys like to see? Screenshots, scans, review, comparisons, video clips.....?? As someone who likes both the English dub, and the original Japanese version of the series I should be able to pull of a decent review of the set. I don't know why, but It's gotten extremely bias reviews by both sides of the DBZ community. I can barely get through these people's reviews, it's almost as if they're talking about FUNimation and not the set they're claiming to review.

Well i really don't mind what you do, since i have the set myself.
And yeah, i agree with you on tha fact that the reviews have been mostly a debate on funimation and not the set itself. |

Why are people so anti funimation? I could understand the hatred to the bastardization done by pioneer in the early days, but funi is all good in my opinion..
I have the set myself but some scans of the booklet would be awesome for those that dont. I hope they continue to include these booklets in the upcoming season sets. Including the cover art of the original dvds in the booklet would have been a nice addition. One mistake on the book i have noticed in character bios. Vegeta and Nappa did not first appear in episode 11, it was that episode where they where eating those aliens (Episode 5 or 6..) Cheers |

I don't think Vegeta and Nappa were named in Episode 5. If they were then their appearance was counted as a cameo or it's another mistake.
I've had this set for two weeks now (thanks to some super speedy deliver to the UK the US) and I've seen all of it. It's really awesome. Here's my review: "After releasing the first two Seasons one DVD with Pioneer, FUNimation moved onto the rest of the series consistently. Then they went back to the first Series and released it again, under the very red Ultimate Uncut banner, and never even finished it! This new DVD Season Boxes are the start of a consistent set, presenting DBZ in the Original US Broadcast Version Uncut, the Original Uncut Japanese and a new Uncut English version with the Original Japanese BackGround Music! This is a godsend for DBZ fans everywhere. It's consistent and purely Uncut except for the next episode previews which FUNi weren't even given. This is even better news for UK fans. Instead of having to spend loads importing US DVDs and facing evil postage costs and waits at times, this new budget release is the answer to all your problems. The epsiodes themselves are brilliant with almost no grain and far less blips and scratches than before. It's also Widescreen (which crops a bit but whatever) and in HD. This means bog-standard TVs will have some problems, but all UK DVD players, PS2s and Xbox consoles can play them, due to being Regions 1,2 and 4. There are 39 episodes spead across 6 discs, all contained neatly in an orange brick (as referred to by Daizex) and the Discs are put on top of each other, which is bareable, but possibly annoying. The presentation on the Box and Menu is perfectly fine, the Extras are pretty good (For FUNimation) which covers the remastering process. There is also an insert, a little booklet with episode guides, character profiles and a bit messed up DBZ History timeline. The Episodes are still brilliant, the ones you know and love in Uncut, with lovely looking footage (the new colours are ace) and the FUNimation voice actors instead of the Ocean Group (bleh). Plus the choice of three versions is great. So buy it now!" This is my review I posted on Amazon. I think you should make a new page on the site called "DBZ Re-mastered", "New DBZ" or "Digital DBZ" or something along those lines. You should put people's thoughts about the set, screenshots and shots of the DVD and you should update it when the next box comes out. |
