Default Atari Announces New DBZ Games!

Earlier this morning Atari officially announced/confirmed in a press statement that both Shin Budokai 2 and Harukanaru Goku Densetsu will be releasing in the USA. According to the article, Harukanaru Goku Densetsu (which has been renamed to just "Harukanaru Densetsu"), is set to hit stores in Spring 2007, and Shin Budokai 2 sometime in March:

"Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai: Another Road is the sequel to Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai, one of the best selling PSP(R) system games launched in 2006. The game takes the intense Wi-Fi multiplayer battles and thrilling combative gameplay made popular in last year's hit and adds an improved fighting system with over 50 new fighting skills and ultimate attacks and the power to play heroes and villains from the DBZ, Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball worlds. In addition to these all-new features, Shin Budokai: Another Road will send players into a completely new story arc following the future world of Trunks on his adventures against rival Majin Buu. Developed by NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. / Dimps, Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai: Another Road is slated to release in March 2007 for the PSP(R) system.
Dragon Ball Z Harukanaru Densetsu is an all new DBZ(R) experience unlike any other for the Nintendo DS. Harukanaru Densetsu combines strategic card based gameplay and role playing to deliver a game that is easy to understand but hard to master. Players' progression is determined through their use of the cards to evolve characters, strengthen moves and create new moves. Developed by NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc., Dragon Ball Z Harukanaru Densetsu will be available on Nintendo DS in Spring 2007."

Didn't you find it hard to believe that a Shin Budokai 2 would exist not so long ago Sharky?

Yep
Sorry, but some online store which is completely uninvolved in the production of video games listing an unannounced title isn't what I'd call a reliable source.

After this, I think it's time we all respectfully buried DBZ and let it rest in peace already.
Honest to God. They're going to run out of ideas for games soon. Before you know it, you're going to wind up with something so ludicrous that it makes you want to go watch Naruto fillers to calm your nerves.

Some of the games lately (Super Dragonball Z, Budokai 3 Greatest Hits) were quite amazing actually. Shin Budokai, with enough characters = >>>Budokai 3.

It seems like the DBZ game developers have basically run into what you're saying (even if they don't realize it). But rather than stopping the release of "new" DBZGT games, they're slowly transitioning to a new idea. This is the addition of new stories/characters to the DBZGT universe, which we're yet but surely seeing more of (Shin Budokai 2 is a good example).
Meh. I could be wrong. But at least that's what I would do if I were in their shoes. It's got to be extremely obvious that they can only sell so many games that are essentially the exact same thing based on the exact same story.
On the other hand, companies have been making DBZGT games long before any of us were even fans of the series. Companies have been making DBZGT games since the dawn of video games themselves.
So why stop now?

Because DBZ had it's run. It's time for it to step down and hand the title of "Greatest (Mainstream) Anime Ever" to Naruto. And in time, Naruto will step down and Bleach will take it's place. Although, actually, it seems like Bleach is already more popular than Naruto, at least from what I've seen. Not America-wise, of course, but in Japan and on the internet, I mean.
Anyways, DBZ had it's time in the spotlight, but as you said, they can only make so many games about the same damn thing. They're eventually going to get desperate, bend DBZ over a table, and sodomize it by putting in characters and stories that never existed to begin with. And, like I said, it'll be so ridiculous that you'll actually WANT to go watch Naruto fillers to calm your nerves. And anyway, there's only so many games they can make before fans get annoyed with it, at which point it becomes a loss to produce the games because nobody will buy them. Ten years from now, nobody in the age range that would like DBZ would know what the hell it is. Look at Robot Chicken or The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, with their DBZ references. The DBZ generation has practically already grown up and is making its own cartoons. So coming out with more games when the generation that liked it has already outgrown it by several years isn't exactly...profitable.

Apparantly it's...been profitable, though. Some of them were darn good too. =/
