FUNimation will soon be re-releasing the entire first two seasons of Dragonball Z (equaling approximately sixty-seven episodes) on DVD, possibly beginning in 2004 (with 2005 looking much more likely). The original production of these episodes were handled English dubbed only for American syndication broadcast in 1996 and 1997. Approximately fifteen episodes worth of material was edited out (violence, language, visuals, etc). These episodes were dubbed with the voice talent of the Ocean Group, based out of Vancouver, Canada. The re-dub will be handled in-house by FUNimation, and will feature the voice talent of FUNimation's own cast (which has since been used in the rest of DBZ, and all of DB and DBGT).
The official word on these releases is that they will begin to come out once all of Dragonball GT has been released on DVD (this includes the beginning sixteen "Lost Episodes" and the single TV special). The seasons will be released in the now-popular "box + volume/disc 1" format (that is, you will be able to purchase the first volume, which will also come with a box to hold the entire rest of the season). They are intended to completely replace the original seventeen-volume first two seasons, originally released on VHS and DVD by Pioneer Home Entertainment (now called Geneon Entertainment). This information came directly from a FUNimation representative on-hand at a MegaCon convention in March 2004. As for an episode numbering system, expect 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, etc. Source: Superior
