I've just updated the user ranks / titles, in two ways.

First, I added a number at the beginning to show how the rank compares with others. There are currently 30 defined ranks.

Second, I changed the number of posts required to reach each rank. On MFG 4, several people correctly complained that they had been on the forum for a long time, and had barely progressed through the ranks. The new scheme allows people to move very quickly at first, then it gets more and more difficult as you move up (perhaps not unlike training in the real world).

Any way we can see a list of all the ranks?

Does anyone think that having different sets of ranks based on different animes would be cool? Maybe one for Naruto and one for Bleach to start?

That'd be better, since there's Naruto2.

Maybe you could even out the ranks between the three (10 each, since there's 30 ranks)? Of course, having 1-10 as one, 11-20 as another, and 21-30 as the last wouldn't be all that good, so mix it up?

Meh, I'm not sure what to say about integrating other animays. I like the current sytem, but maybe it could change for our sub-sites (Bleach ranks for Bleach2, etc)...??

Wel ,I don't know if it would work, but what if under the user control panel they could choose a rank set out of a certain set, i.e A Db set, a Naruto set and a bleach set?

That last suggestion...genius. I think by far that would be the best option. We'd judge the ranks accordingly and using good judgment, at least if we're to combine them.

I think combining them would be awkward. There would undoubtedly be a big debate over which ranks in each series are stronger than the others.

One feature vB has is that each group can have its own set of ranks. In addition, groups can be marked as "public", so that people can join or leave them as they wish.

So how about this:

-- The DBZ ranks would be the default. If members don't take any special action, that's what they get.
-- Other animes, starting with Naruto and Bleach, would have their own sets of ranks, attached to public groups.
-- Members could freely join those groups.
-- After joining, they would also have to select the option to make that group their "display group".
-- If they did, the group-specific ranks would show up instead of the default ones.
-- Because of the way that vB handles things, another title string also has to be displayed, which would be something like "Naruto ranked" (the same title would be used for everyone in that group). That would be displayed right after joining, but before the user selected the display group setting.

I've made a test group called "Naruto Ranks" to give you an idea what I mean. Go to your User CP and click on the Group Memberships link. Select Naruto Ranks, then select "Identify me as a member of this group". Then go check out your posts. I'll only leave the test group there for another day or two.

I know it's a little klunky -- but do you think it would be useful?

So, would it be possible to switch off between groups whenever we would want to? If so, that'd probably be the way to go.
