Ace

The first phase of the Invision Post Recovery Project has been completed.

Work done in this phase includes re-creation of all old user accounts and the restoration of about 19,000 old posts in three forums: Dragonball AF, Writer's Block and the moderator forum.

Users who still have active accounts, and whose email address matched one used on the old system have had the old posts attached to their current account. All other users have accounts that start with a dot, and have no avatar. Guest posts were also recovered, and are shown as being posted by Anonymous. Counts for things like total number of users, total posts, individual point totals, etc. have been recalculated to include the old posts.

There are some known problems. They include:

• 
  Avatars and other user profile info was not restored
  
• 
  Attachments were not restored
  
• 
  Blogs and the old image gallery were not restored

You might also notice that the Last Post in the forum summaries shows one of the recovered posts until someone posts something else in that forum.

Before I read-in the other 280,000 posts from the old system, I would like to ask you to have a look at what's been recovered so far, and let me know of other problems that you might find.

As far as I can tell the post recovery went very successful and I have not come acrossed any problems at this point in time. I did see the problem with the Last Post in forum summaries, but after someone posted in a different topic, it was updated as you said it would be. Good luck with the other 280,000 posts!

I will probably recover the remaining posts a chunk at a time. On my test machine, 50,000 posts seem to take about an hour to import, so I have a fair amount of babysitting ahead.

I know the FanFic Creating Writing folks are anxious to get their old stuff back, so I'll probably do that next.

All of the Creative Writing section has now been restored. It had 20K+ posts.

I'm doing a section or two at a time for a while, just to be sure CS doesn't fall over with the sudden increase in post count. I ran into one problem already, where deleting posts was causing a timeout. I found a work-around (disabling auto-delete in the Deleted Posts section), though it took a while to debug.

The rarely used spoiler tags are messed up upon import. The content within the tags is seemingly inaccessible. Minor issue, but noticeable.

Yes, I noticed that too. I have a fix in mind. Actually, if you can post a link to a thread that uses the old spoiler tags here in this thread, it would save me having to hunt one down to test my idea.

Another 60K or so posts have been restored:

• Shops (sig requests)

• Bleach
• Naruto
• Other Anime

This is going a really long way to bringing us back to our former self, and we know this because of the activity picking up. Hopefully we never run out of things to keep you busy around here man. We love you and we hope you stick around for ever dude.
