Yes, unfortunately you won't be able to receive emails from the forum until the old posts have been recovered. After that, you can change your email address and it won't undo or hurt anything.

The email address above was assigned to a user called PyroManiac, not FMAfan (which isn't there at all). Was that you?

If you rely heavily on receiving email from the current forums, let me know and I can patch things so you will still get your old join date and your old posts. However, it's somewhat less reliable that way, since I have to remember to manually make the change. For those who want to do that, please PM me your old account name and email address.

BTW, it looks like I will be able to match up old posts to just your old email address, as with the join dates. Your old user name doesn't matter.

If you don't update your email address, your old posts will still be visible once they're imported -- they will just belong to a placeholder-username instead of to you.

Yeah, on the old MFG one of the admins, I think superior gave the ability to change names and I changed from FMAfan to PyroManiac. I dunno if I had been using a different E-mail when I changed names.

As for the e-mail, I can probably change it for awhile. I only use it to tell when I've gotten a PM. Anyways, thanks for what you are able to do.

Eh.. sorry, I'm a little.. confused on the feature, do you need the user names as well? Eh... because, I joined up with the username Trunks,TheFuturesSaviour or something like that, then had it changed to Eragon,Dragon Rider... just wondering, since my username here(simply Eragon) isn't the same as the one on the old forum, will I be able to get my posts back?

Sorry, just making sure, since there's some specific posts I really need to get for a friend..

Your username doesn't matter, unless you don't remember your old email. If your current email is the same as your old one, your Joined date will be reset, and you will get your old posts back.

I'm planning to recover all old posts. If a current user can't be identified to attach them to, then a new "placeholder" user will be created.

Wait, when you say recover old posts - is that referring to just my post count or will I be able to look at a post I made back in the Invision days?

As far as I understand all the old posts will be funnelled here from the old board. So yes on both counts, your post count will rise accordingly, assuming what ace has told everyone to do, and there will be a copy of your posts on this forum.

I thought it was universally known that not only Post Counts would rise, but the Posts themselves would be recovered. Guess I assumed something I shouldn't have. =P It will be quite nice to see some of the old Fan Fictions I posted back in the day, even though most of them only held my interest enough to complete a chapter, but maybe I'll be able to continue off of one of them.

It looks like process of recovering old posts will happen in phases. The next phase will be the re-creation of all of the old user accounts.

Current users who have changed their email addresses to match their old accounts will be able to change them back to what they were before after this phase. Users whose Join Dates haven't been updated also won't have their old accounts, and therefore their old posts, attached to their current accounts. After the re-creation of the old accounts, I will not be able to change things to pick up your old posts in your current account.

The code is done for this phase, so I will probably run it on the live site in a few days.

The phase after this will either be recovery of the old forums or recovery of a few posts. I will probably end up recovering posts one or two forums at a time. Although I have successfully recovered a few posts in some tests I've run, the code still has some bugs, so it might be a while before the process can start in earnest.

Hey Ace, can you do me a favor? Can you funnell the old posts in completed, one shot and poetry sections to the finished goods section of the fan fic forum. It'll save me heaps of time moving them myself. Writers block to writers block and the rest can go in the main forum. If that's possible. Awesome. If not ... oh well.
