Yeah I can kinda speak French, I took it for my options. I went to Lorient and we had this massive thing over parking because you've like got to get a disc for your car and everything.
Ha merde. Our French teacher taught us about it and you like can also say it when you wanna say good luck or something. I went last May, stupid me. I'm not sure about the language but we had Breton cake and biscuits.

Good luck = bonne chance...
I suppose you could say "pas de merde à toi" or something like that... but still, it's nothing you really want to say in the most polite of company... anywho. Most people will take it as the "m" word, or rather, the "s" word since we're speaking English now. :3 Then again, I'm not up-to-date on French slang anymore, so yeah... who knows. >_< Parking is terrible ALL OVER France. Don't drive anywhere there, take buses/cabs/métro, etc. Trust me. I've only visited for the past nine years or so, but still... I know what it's like. By the way, if I lost you with the French, just let me know. I always get a little excited when I find someone who can speak even a little French. *shot* |

Thank you for the welcome; I've seen some of the things you've said around the forum and suffice to say, I find myself intrigued.
...I think. ANYWHO. Um, who was it that had the definition of a "dude" in their signature? You've probably seen it anyways... which is why I'll say that I'm not sure if I should take that as a compliment, or not. (If you haven't seen that person's signature, I'll explain what in all hell I'm talking about... >_<) |

Heh I can speak French. I'm French Canadian. Went through French Immersion in school, my moms family is French so sufficed to say I can speak the language. Though it's been ages since I've had to so some of it would obviously have been lost.
So ya ... that's my contribution.

French Canadian? D'où viens-tu ? Comme je l'ai déjà dit, j'ai perdu aussi un peu de mon français en parlant l'anglais puisque j'habite aux Etats-Unis, mais je peux encore le parler. Most of my problems arise in sentence structure; native speakers are always calling me down on saying something either backwards or sideways. Yes, in translating E->F or F->E, it's possible to say something sideways. (Subjunctive crap...)
J'ai une amie qui vient d'Ontario, et elle parle toujours de sa vie là, et aussi de vos façons de vivre. Il me semble que le beau Canada soit un bon endroit auquel on devrait habiter. =D En ai-je raison ? |

Hehehe nice, I understand 100%, but in order to not lose face I won't reply in French because I'll butcher it so bad it won't even be funny.
I'm from Winnipeg Manitoba, the other french province (sort of), unlike you I can understand French 100% but not speak it nearly as well. Writing it is a different story for me though, I'm even worse now that I haven't done it in like 7-8 years. You're friends from Ontario? Cool, not terribly far from where I used to live. And yes Canada is an awesome place. Alas I live in New Zealand now and likely won't live there for sometime to come now. You're English is very good though.

Merci! Wait, "though?" Oh no, even you could see something strange in my French, huh? I can understand perfectly, and speak perfectly, if only for the fact that I say things out of order every now and then. I blame this CRAZY English language. Evidently, my mistakes in French are equal to something like saying "The wind made fall the trees" instead of "The wind made the trees fall." (I suck with providing examples.) You get what I mean though; the first example is the French structuring (Le vent a fait tomber les arbres), while the second is English structuring (Le vent a fait les arbres tomber, which is something I might say by accident.)
NO MORE RAMBLING ON LANGUAGE FROM ME. *flagellates self* I've heard of Winnipeg, but I'm not even about to pretend like I know anything about it. Me + Geography = NO!!!!!!!!!! (However, I do know that New Zealand is near Australia... right? >_< ) And yeah, I know a family from Ontario; the mother and father LOVE it here in the states, but all three of their daughters (my real friends), do nothing but complain. I'm moving either back to France (or Italy, where I also lived for four years), or else up to Canada, whichever is the easiest for me. ASAP. |

*jots down notes about Central Canada* So I guess that immediately strikes out Ontario and Québec, eh? *shurgs* Oh well, there's always Labrador. But, then again, remember that I SUCK AT GEOGRAPHY, so Labrador's probably like, more central than Ontario. Or something equally defacing for me to assume. *sage nod*
Thanks though. Who knows, maybe I'll screw all hopes of moving to a Francophone place and come down south to Australia or New Zealand. Or even stranger, out to the Philippines, simply because Tagalog is an amazing language. *shot* |

Oh, LoL, I was just recalling someone's signature that defined a "dude" as a horse's penis.
So... um. Hence the rest of what I said. *shot* |
