This isn't a "Politics and Society" forum, if you're looking to talk about that, join some shit like the CNN board. The fact is, the Lounge exists solely to adhere to topics like these, because they are rarely expected, and does not consist of the need to get specific. People don't join a forum named "MyFavoriteGames" and get pissed and leave when they're not reading about Hilary Clinton's latest upheaval of shit. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but MFG is in the web, not the web in MFG.

The thing is that there's not enough serious discussion/debate topics to merit an individual section. There's maybe...5-15 a month, if I'm thinking correctly, and generally only 1-4 of those last for even a week. There's 22 of you that have voted for the debate section, but I doubt that more than ten of you even participate in the discussions now. Unless there's a huge surge of successful debate/serious discussion topics (I'm not talking about news/vent threads, I'm talking about the actual debates), the Lounge is sufficient. Even in the event of a steady line of successful debate topics, the Lounge is still sufficient, but at least then you'll have a valid reason for a debate section.

That's exactly the relationship of the Gas Chamber and the Lounge now. Partitioning off the Lounge into two sections, Serious topics that aren't debates or arguments which is what mostly takes place, and all of the actual debates into a sub/other forum, is going to do nothing but spawn a stillborn baby. It may kick a few times with the rush of members creating topics about anything and everything to administer CPR, but within a few months, it will have worn off and the place will be minimally active.
