I recently found out that posting the links to manga and episode chapters has been outlawed again. Why is this? In all seriousness, I'm not trying to bitch here, but this is the only website that takes such a stand on something so harmless. If there were to be any legal backfire on this, MFG surely would not face a single brunt of it in anyway because MFG does not host or scanlate any of these scans or translations, they are simply found by its posters and shared. I personally do not need the assistance of the forum in order to get my hands on a scanlation, so I'm doing this out of the need for members who lack the resources. But that leads me to another point, is this a conflict of advertising? Is the forum so inconfident that the founders are afraid that a link to a scan on another site might force its members to migrate? For shame. If it's the former, simply post a disclaimer in the rules saying that any legal consequence for posting such links falls on the members and not the forums, if it's the latter, then well shit, I guess you do what you want to do with your website.

"Come on MFG, everybody is doing it. Trrrry it!" Hur, Peer pressure.
So, yeah, I have to say not only did Jonboy make all valid and agreeable points, but he managed to insult MFG's I've never quite gotten WHY it's not allowed here. I would like a detailed explanation of why there are forums that have been around for years that HOST it, yet it's illegal that we post it.

I claim that the board founders are thinking "If we disallow it, we won't get sued in any way, ever."
I have no proof, but when you think about it, posting manga scans has a risk in it... sort of.

Copyright laws ring a bell.

Copy right laws apply to those who distribute illegally. Ace, Sharky, Punxx, and Goku aren't going around publishing and selling chapters of Naruto, Bleach and DBZ, neither any of the staff members, or general members for that matter. They're simply posts in order to give people who don't know where to find chapters a link. Not to mention the hassle of the rules' suggestion as to just post one scan as evidence towards an argument(save, reupload, and post). It just seems a little too protective, if you ask me.

I'm of the opinion that people should purchase their Manga. The fact so many read it online has always bothered me, which is more-or-less my thing against posting it here; it just contributes to what I see as a problem.
Granted, I know we can't make things like that go away, but endorsement doesn't help. And I know the majority here doesn't see it as I do, so I'll probably just stay out of this for the most part if it turns into a long discussion.

I never really saw the problem with reading anything online as long as you buy crap you'd want to pay for anyway, personally. I'd read through Bleach many times online (as an example), but own volumes 1-22. I also like to cross-reference translations when possible, even if I have the official one. That others may not buy them, well, I don't really feel a personal responsibility for the lack of that sense of honour in others, although it's a real shame.
