If the people that make the Rep topics are posting nothing but Rep topics, then they have nothing else to post, whether the Rep function was here or not.

I disagree, because some of those people have been involved in real discussions before and some others are just there because that's all that is active anymore.

It's kind of hard to do that since all a member has to do is spam up an interesting topic and it gets banished to the Gas Chamber, and once it's there, it tends to devolve into mostly ******ry pretty rapidly. I'll be the first to admit to being a catalyst for said devolving. Rep doesn't really bother me, though I do kind of wish for it to go back to being an actually gauge of what you post and not a whoring system, despite the big bars fast is an alluring prospect. Post count really can't be amended. All you can do is detour people, not block it off completely. There will always be the member's list, profiles, etc.

I think if we were to remove the post count, the forum would produce more quality posts. But I'm not getting into a debate about it, but if members voted on it, it'd be an unanimous decision to remove them. (That is, members excluding Lord_Sloth, Amerowolf, Super Cool, and others who give a shit about their post count).

If we remove the rep system and post count, then every post by every member will always be on-topic and intellectually stimulating. Threads will be full of deep and endlessly intricate discussiong and conversation. No one will ever use silly acronyms like "lol" and "rofl" ever again. Everyone will begin to have a proper sense of humor and will refuse to laugh at spam because it is not intelligent enough.

I'm in favor or removing the rep function, but we should add the thank function. Most probably don't know what this is, but it allows you to thank members for well-worded or interesting posts/threads. There aren't any special icons to show for it, but you can keep track of how many times you have been thanked per post. This would likely reduce spam topics, as only ridiculously retarded users would post topics like 'Thank Me, Nao!'

I do, however, like to feel appreciated, so I would need something to replace the rep function/application.

Well the post count function actually has a reason, even if it is a purely ego-bloating one. And I prefer that I gain reps through actually saying something worthwhile rather than just cos someone feels like it. It gives me a sense of achievement to see I'm actually saying things that matter to members.

I say keep them both, if just for a purely egotestical reason. But I ask people not to rep for the sake of repping.

The Reputation system is pointless.

The Post Count is also pointless.

But at least the Post Count doesn't sprout ten different topics per day which involve nothing but massive amounts of idiocy being blurted out in every single post. The Post Count just... is there, doing nothing in particular. If the Reputation system actually had a function, it'd be pretty decent, but most of the members with high Reputation are those who spend all their time in the Gas Chamber ranting about it anyway. So it kind of kills the purpose automatically. There are many reasons for this - such as people retardedly believing that high reputation makes you 'cool', the way the system functions which requires you to give reputation to a lot of people before giving it to the same person again - when the only ones actually deserving reputation points can be counted in one hand, the oceans of spam that flood the Gas Chamber, massively suppressing activity in other areas of the forum etc. The Reputation system is doing far more harm than good (it's not doing anything 'good', to be exact), so in all honestly, I believe it would be best if it were purged.

The Post Count does not annoy me, nor do I care about it being kept or discarded, since it doesn't do anything important.
