What do you think what happens when you die? I think there is after life and i think you go to a place of Darkness called "Hell" if your bad or you go to place of Light called "Heaven".

And please no flame wars

I do not believe in a Heaven or Hell. I am currently torn between the worm food theory and something beyond our understanding. Instead of a Heaven or Hell I think all souls would be enlightened, and we would all inhabit a perfect society with none of the negatives such as poverty or violence.

Either nothing, or the Heaven/hell thing. I believe Heaven would either be like Inu said, or something like souls re-joining with God.

I don't believe in reincarnation but i do think if armageddon does happen then i think the world will be reborn and people will come back as someone else.

I believe in a heaven, and i do believe that people will be ressurcted if they are seen to be good in God's eyes, but Hell i don't believe in it. I believe that we are living in Hell, with life being so hard and unfair, and all the sins people commit and with the murders and deaths that happen with no reasons and the cruelities of mankind. Earth is hell in my opinion. You just have to make the best of it and live life the right way.

I believe that everything on this planet is connected to each other. Whether it is scientifically or spiritually. Scientifically would be that we are all made up of the same proteins and DNA structure, and spiritually would be that our souls are all interconnected or can connect in a way that is beyond our consciousness. Like for instance the feeling you get when you come in contact with certain things (living) vs other things. Anyways I think that we essentially die but our soul lives on.

If that makes any sense. I am not very good at clarifying things.

I like to think that there is SOMETHING after death and we don't all just become skeletons. It's nice to think that way.

Except in that new testament thing, but that's all maverick ideas anyways. Get your damn turban back on LS.

In the new testament Jesus says through me you will ascend into heaven, if not you're going to hell. I'll look up some quotes if you really want but just read the gospels and there's more than enough quotes. John 3:16 for an easy example...

I'm defiantly going to have to agree, that would be best thing for everyone, if that's what happens, but I do believe in Heaven and Hell.

Biblical quotes are often vauge and can easily be taken out of context - extremists are a perfect example of this. I place as much faith in the bible as in Nostradamus or any other book written by men.

But then, why do Bible dictionaries define άίωνίον and άίώυιος as forever, eternal, or everlasting? Not because these words carried such a meaning in ancient Greek, but because 16th and 17th Century Bible translators rendered them that way. So, wrong translating has become the rule for continued wrong translating. Yet, this error could not escape the notice of any true Bible translator, because it is so obvious.

Getting back to the word aionos (age, singular) that is used at John 17:3 and in dozens of other places in the Bible; what was Jesus talking about when he said the faithful will receive life in the age? Well, this is one instance where translating the singular form aionos as forever badly distorts the meaning of Jesus’ words. Notice, for example, his promise at John 11:26, where he said, ‘Everyone that is living and exercises faith in me will never die at all. Do you believe this?’

Also, notice what Jesus said, as recorded at John 5:24, ‘I tell you the truth: The one who hears what I say and believes in the One that sent me, will have life in the age. He won’t have to be judged, for he has crossed over from death to life.’

You can see that Jesus wasn’t talking about some time thousands of years in the future; he was talking about something that could happen to his listeners then and there!

He is basically saying that if you believe in him you will go to heaven. Jesus said in John: 14:6 “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Just what “heaven” entails is always very murky. At one time, people seemed to think that saved souls would float around on clouds playing harps. Today, anyone asked this question will offer the more evasive “live in the presence of God” — sort of like what I said earlier about being enlightened by God.

I assumed John 3:16 talked about ascending to heaven. After review I have found that you are right, to an extent. Heaven is talked of as 'living with the presence of God' instead of traveling to golden paved streets in the sky. But hell is still spoken of as the lake of fire, a few verses after the ones you posted.

Edit: From what I've read in Rev 20/21, Those on the baddie list will get cast into the lake of fire, Christ will be with us on earth.

Here's a bit more from that same chapter of Revelations you mentioned that may help, talking about what happens after the first and second deaths:

That always sounds like kind of a let down to me. I mean, nothing has much meaning if it all adds up to nothing.

Also, Revelation seems to be one of the most confusing parts of the Bible. I could barely understand what it meant when I read it. But, for me, it's simple. Jesus is the only way to get to heaven. Do what he says.
