Lol, I was speaking under the assumption that the US still > China. Last I heard we had 3 years before China kicks everyones asses.

If the US and China went to war today, China would win.

Edit: Due to the fact that if no nukes are used, China has a ton of personnel. Way more than the US. The US would probably invade, to keep the war off their soil. It would be a long war, with tens of thousands of Chinese fortifications and seemingly endless Chinese reinforcements.

With US forces spread thin, and the country on the verge of an economic collapse, on declaration of war Bush would suspend the elections and the people would be furious. More US troops would be needed to police their citizens and this would also present a perfect opportunity for Russia and other enemies of the US.

Well Europe would probably step in TBH. They would have to be stupid to allow China or Russia to capture the US. And from what I've heard even with both at full strength, Britain, France, Germany, Italy etc together>US Army. Meaning that If the full strength US army was enough to keep China and Russia at bay before, Europe Army and funds plus current US forces would easily be enough.

Not really. NZ, Tonga, Australia, and Fiji would get raped by America. Or even France.

I guess it depends on what you define as a successful country. Do you define success as needing a powerful military out of fear of the rest of the world, or a country that needs no military because no one has any reason to attack them?

Militarily successful. There are plenty of countries that aren't capable of being war machines that are still successful as a country.
