I don't think God would be as simple as "God". With all due respect the opinion other people are of, "God" is something I chalk up to a label. If we could "fathom" what God is and know what it is, and know where it stemmed from, there wouldn't be anything that complex or omnipotent about "God", would there? Hence why we can't figure out who "created" God - God "creating" God is an intriguing explanation to me, but it doesn't change that such a concept is still something very distant from us as human limitations (and henceforth the limitations of this planet and dimension) still deter our sensory intensely.
I'm not against religion, though I'm not of any particular one - I see it as both an outlet for what one may perceive as "moral decency" (or what consensus could surmise in that facet), but I feel it can be dangerous if used overabundantly or too pensively (or, rather, to force one's view on to another). Philosophy and the general questioning of the simple yet complex questions (such as the nature of the universe) is more arcane than pernicious to me, because the potential that philosophy holds is more than just infinite, it's beyond comprehension at this level. I don't doubt science entirely, but I only think that it's as good as what humans can perceive and observe. So what does "God" want of us? Well, I either chalk it up to something that's yet to be discerned (but not at this level). Or maybe "God" is not limited to being perceived through sensory.... or maybe it's much simpler than that - for us to just live out our lives the way that would bring us to tranquility. Not joy by full intents, but happiness, and the search for fulfillment (internal or/and external). But now I'm just pulling things out of thin air... this is a topic that is probably anyplace beyond humanity at large. Hence why, while I'm not an Atheist, I don't cling to any certainty about "God". If the "source" of creation could be expounded upon at this level, then "God" wouldn't be as complex as "God". But now I'm just prattling and am getting banal. I tend to adhere to the notion that it'd best to assume that the first step to figuring out what or where "God" is is that it isn't as simple as that. It's a matter I tend to contemplate many a thought, though, even if it doesn't necessarily lead to anywhere worldly or conclusive. Note that this post as a whole is my opinion and just that. I'm not telling anyone want to think or how to live their lives. That's up to your volition. That's up to you. I just think that nothing is a simple as it seems given that humanity still has quite a length to progress in sensory and many other aspects. This, to me, includes "God".

So, I hear that middle eastern weed is pretty good eh?
Richard E. Schultes, a prominent researcher in the field of psychoactive plants, said in an article he wrote entitled "Man and Marijuana": "...that early man experimented with all plant materials that he could chew and could not have avoided discovering the properties of cannabis (marijuana), for in his quest for seeds and oil, he certainly ate the sticky tops of the plant. Upon eating hemp the euphoric, ecstatic and hallucinatory aspects may have introduced man to an other-worldly plane from which emerged religious beliefs, perhaps even the concept of deity. The plant became accepted as a special gift of the gods, a sacred medium for communion with the spiritual world and as such it has remained in some cultures to the present."The effects of marijuana was proof to the ancients that the spirit and power of the god(s) existed in this plant and that it was literally a messenger (angel) or actually the Flesh and Blood and/or Bread of the god(s) and was and continues to be a holy sacrament. Considered to be sacred, marijuana has been used in religious worship from before recorded history. |

God could very well be an imaginary being created by corrupt and monsterous people to control, enslave, and bend the will of the masses to serve them. I dislike it when someone makes a statement either way in that argument without declaring that they don't know for sure, when people act like they actually know the answer about the the question that is god.
Nevertheless, why do you think God is worthy of respect Vicdmx? Edit: lol, I posted this and then accidentally deleted a fan-fic I had worked on for 30 minutes, makes you think doesn't it?

I personally do think God exists but like LSSJ7 said we can't understand him or his ways fully, people who say that God was cruel in the Old Testament are assuming that there are any innocent people there God wasn't doing anything in-just. To me God is like a person who can help me, God gives everyone a chance. If everything is always so Good then the Good is just...meh. That's why I believe God has us here so we can appreciate heaven more. Also God says he'll judge everyone (Including Satan) as well as the fallen angels. So they will be thrown into the lake of fire. We don't know the future, who will be saved and who won't for all we know the people that the revelation talks about on Judgment day who get thrown in are simply the fallen angels/Satan etc. for all we know everyone (Human) will be saved. God's actions aren't predictable, if everything God did made sense on our level then he wouldn't be "GOD" or at least worthy of such a title. So that's probably where the true "Faith" lies that we trust God even when things get rough, people who go through rough times appreciate the good times better.
However alot of Christians often don't present their point-of veiw the way God should, alot of people twist the gospel to fit their actions (The ones they want to take at least, however no one here has done this just to be clear just people I've met), but since I'm a Christian I always try to let the person make their own decision and make myself humble since the only difference between me and a non-believer in my eyes is that I have repented I am not "Better" in my view I definatly have my flaws (I just wanted to let people know that not all Christians are prideful).

Now I don't think it's specifically faith that start wars. People fight anyone who are different than themselves.

Obviously some sort of a god is real...something had to have created the universe.
Of course...who created god? And who created the thing that created god. Its an endless loop of mindfuck :( Island's post shares a lot of my views, although I personally don't think there is a kingdom of heaven. I think god sees everything(humans, animals, aliens, bacteria, etc.) equally, and when you die you reincarnate into something that is 'born' at the same moment as you. Its not neccassarily a human, likely you would reincarnate into some sort of alien(assuming there is indeed life on other planets).

I don't believe in God. From my childhood to this very moment of his period I see God as nothing more than false sense of authority. A tyrant. Yes, a tyrant, harsh as it may seem. You may take my word offensivly but I stand by my view that God is not fair, that God is not just. Prayers are like a paper-filled hat. God digs into the hat and picks one out. Millions upon countless people pray and pray from the simplest to the most complex things but are they granted no?
God spreads fear. Yes, fear...another thing that may offend and surprise you. In the world of God (At least from what I get presented) God stands by a "Worship or Die" scenario. If you don't believe in God, you go to hell, no buts. God can't so much as just wipe someone away forever. It's..."Belief or burn." Strict but from what I see, its true. However I look at everything at logical point of view. That being said there has been one thing that I always take in account. A little scientific statement. "Matter can only be created by matter." (I may have mixed that up, it's been awhile but I think I get the point across.) That being said, the "first" matter of existense could not have just popped into existence, at a logical stand point. So what created that first matter? Nobody knows...it's too complex. Some outside force, unbenknownst to anyone...must have created or placed the first matter to create thus new matter in existence. It is impossble to tell. Religon is created to explain things, as with the Greeks and Romans, because at that point of time, nobody could explain the unexplainable. So what better what to explain an unexplainable? With an unexplainable force.

I see where you are going and I appreciate your non-offensive ways. However I'd have to disagree with a few points.
In a sense that could easily be interpretted like that however, I should point out that Prayers are not always answered the night they are prayed. In my experience many of the prayers I've had have not been answered right away, however it turned out better in the End. When I prayed for my Dad to get better (This was about 5 years ago) It wasn't answered however I trusted him. I later recieved news that the doctor had finally found and cured him, there was another disease it was cancer in progress I prayed to God with my father like I never had before and we grew much, much closer. He had a close call but my Dad is still alive and kicking thanks to the doctors, my prayer might not have been answered right away but it was answered and when it was answered later I got to grow far more closer to my father. If there is evil with the good, it makes you appreciate the good much more in my view. If God had simply took the cancer out then I wouldn't have grown closer to my father. I didn't understand it at first but I've figured that since God has a higher understanding of things I'm not gonna understand him 100% right away however many inccidents like this have occured over my life and I have found that if a simple prayer wasn't answered the way I wanted it, God gave me more out of it since I kept my faith. About this "Worship or Die" thing, I disagree. I don't have to worship God to get into heaven it was simply something I actually like doing. All you really have to do is have faith in him. If your eyes are truly opened then most of the time the worship just comes with it and I do it because, I want too. To be honest we don't know if anyone will go to Hell, who knows perhaps everyone will believe one day. In fact Chrisianity is one of the only religions that don't require "Good-acts" God only wants us to do them willingly if we don't want to do it God holds nothing against us though he encourages us to do it. I understand how you can see God like that but I just felt that I had to say some of these things. I hope you don't hold anything against me, I apologise if I said anything that angered you.

Far from it SSJ4 Vegito. (The angering me part.)
I can't explain prayers. Prayers really aren't explainable. I see them as acts of hope to a "friend" in the hopes that problems or wants can be answered or solved. I think I prayed once for a person who had cancer. (Ironic isn't it.) The person did indeed survive. This was perhaps the one and only time I've ever prayed on my own volition. I say volition because I could've been four or five years old and prayed not understood what I was doing. I didn't pray because I believed in God, in fact I don't think I even mentioned Gods name in the prayer. I prayed or "hoped" that this person would get better because I stand not just by logical reasons, but by the pure, unrelentless goodness in my heart or if I had to be technical, my mind. --- Worship or Die was harsh and I appologize for that. I know, and I thank that not everyone is like that, thing is its what I've seen. I've yet to meet a person who, logically or not could talk to me about my beliefs without condeming to utter Damnation. I'm from the South, and there's such a religous bash where I live that if you don't believe in God, you're doomed. I hate that. I respect it when possible and I respect other people's beliefs. I don't care what a person thinks or what he or she believes in. I love being contradicted and corrected because it shows me as a logical person that there is more for me to learn. However, I hate being corrected for a reason that another can't back up at the very least, semi-reasonably.

Well Im a Pagan, so im into the whole nature thing. I believe in evolution. The notion that some big dude in the clouds just sort of went "bang" look, a person! Magic! is really rather stupid (IMO) Perhaps he put a few cells and atoms in place and then just sat back to watch the show, but the evidence of evolution is everywhere, fossils and history and also in the world around us today.
But anyway, back to god. I believe in the Goddess and the God, they exist in harmony, and the cycle of life and death is celebrated each year with the seasons. But My mother, for example, takes several different beliefs from different religions, as well as some of her own, and has sort of created a personal faith of her own. I think thats what God is, finding belief in something pure and good, that you want to aspire to. It doesn't have to be witin the confines of one single religion. |

I believe in Christian God. I believe that God loves us all and wants the best for us and hears us and sees us and knows all. I say prayers and they're usually the same thing, unless I'm asking for something specific. I ask God every night to protect us all and help us all get into heaven.
Cheesy you may say? Well there's cheesier things I could be doing or saying ^_^ People ask how I feel when bad things do happen. I have no answers for that, partly the explanation for certain things is Free Will and partly there is no explanation that we can comphrehend probably. I also believe that God create life and the Universe, simple as that. I believe that there are questions we have such as "How did God exists always?" that we'll never know here on Earth. I believe in God, not priests and people that claim to be people of God and yet their actions are the completely opposite e.g. hateful bitter. Though not every priest in the world is 'bad'. It does makes me wonder though how atheists, well more sciencebelievers can explain what pre-existed the big bang and how there is space or substances at all for the big bang to have occured?
