The black holes that would be created are so small they dissolve into nothing in an instant. They can't hold their structure. Also, some may get their wish as the Collider is having some technical difficulties and will be down for a while. The world is safe for now ![]() Quote:

Man, has anyone actually researched what they are doing in CERN? I think its awesome! And out of the ways to go, all getting sucked into a blackhole in persuit of knowledge doesnt seem too bad.
The collider was'nt 'turned on' in August, its actually being activated in November, it was a routine thing they did when they just fired stuff around the system, and didnt collide it, to discover any faults. Lucky they did as they found one, which will set back the actual activation a month or so. But if you actually watch the documentaries on it.. then.. WOW.. i mean, prepare to be baffled with string theory if you dont do physics (like me) but its awesome what they are doing. They are chilling the entire structure down to a temperature below that of deep space... I mean, HOW?! that alone is awesome. They are not trying to create blackholes, and that eventuality is hghly unlikely, and also they will be so small that they will dissolve, which has already been said here. If the collider works, they may be able to discover the "god particle" which does have a more scientific name, i just cant remember it off hand, and that will answer ALOT of questions and pretty much make scientists undisputeable, which is gonna be tough for im thinking, a lot of highly religious fundamentalist groups, as it will pretty much shoot down their theories in flames (<3) However, if they DONT discover the god particle... i heard one man talking and saying that if that was the case, it would almost be better from a scientific point of view, because that would mean they wuld have to rethink all their theories, and find out where they have gone wrong. But all the concerns aout CERN are moronic (IMO) I think its excelent, and besies by the time they actually DO activate it, people will probably have forgotten about it after all the fuss kicked up over a trial run. I'll back CERN all the way quite frankly. |

The real test begins on 10/21/08 correct me if im wrong. On NBC news a few weeks ago, they had a guy saying that if a black hole is created, it will be microscopic and evaporate in a split second, and that it would take many lifetimes of the universe for this to pose a threat. It can be turn off very easy if it becomes a threat.
I can't wait to see what happens because i think something like this can change history forever.

But, if they didn't find one, depending on what was wrong, there could be several different problems. My guess would be the collider wouldn't work at all.

the problem was there was a leak of the substance that cools it, i believe. Im not sure, cant remember exactly. But i really dont see the point in saying "yes, but what if??" Because they are scientists, they are not stupid, they did check. You can't use that as an argument, becuse it didn't happen.

Can you not read? She said "but, what if?" What if the scientists didn't catch something and everything went horribly wrong? "What if" can be used as a theoretical argument but you don't really have anything to base it on.
