Because people of America today do not realize we are not a democracy. In fact, our founding fathers were totally afraid of Democracy. If you note, they've never used the word democracy once in their descriptions of America.

Also, you'll notice that unless the citizens of those countries elect somebody that America agrees with, they will simply oppose it and force a change. So even the democracy that is being "introduced" to other countries is instantly flawed and very few could even be called a democratic election.

Democratic nations are nothing but crude compressed governments that are give the illusion that the people hold power. There is nothing more ignorant than believing that the individual holds any power what so ever. To combat the Levithan, Democracy is supposed to have several different powers to check it to protect the people, creating a unbalance of powers. Democracy is a failed system, it just works better than the rest. Though, I can tell you there was a time in Canada in the 90s where one could easily say that there was a Federal Dictatorship because Democracy allowed it to form because the people wished it so.
Edit: Democracy is very hard to bring to people that have no history of it. Almost all forms of Democracy have seen bloodshed in its brewing. United States and Canada are the few nations that have no history except versions of Democratic principles.

Also, for a rep, will someone please sum up Socialism, Communism, and Republic in simple terms. First one to do this decently gets the prize. Why? because it's easier than reading through miles of text on wikipedia and stuff. IE. Democracy Political system, where a ruler is voted into place by the people every X years, and the majority of discisions are decided by a majority vote. |

Put into practice, the leaders of the Communism usually make the people equal by taking everything and giving the people nothing, ruling by fear of force. It's a rare, and usually temporary thing when practical Communism succeeds, even in just staying afloat. Democracy is where everyone gets equal say in every decision. A few easily identified problems with that is that you get people making the decisions that don't know anything about the issue, and simply vote on what they are told or because of gender/ethnic reasons (not unlike today's elections, except everyone would participate), and it would be HARD to do. With a country of millions, the lines to do it by hand would be 2-4 more monstrous than they are now and the vote would be much more frequent. We're talking every issue, here. Computers aren't much better, since people are going to hack that and jack with the vote. America's type of goverment isn't perfect. No government is. But like Geiger was saying, it beats Communism because Communism is run by a single man or party of men that have essentially unrestricted power. The American government doesn't make it impossible for an totalitarian-esque government to pop up (Andrew Jackson, lol), but it makes it very difficult since the power is split into three sections, and those sections rarely all agree, especially to the degree to give the president, or any single person, power to bypass the protective laws and courts and act how they wish in violation of protective rights.

A republic is where you elect representatives. It's what we do. The people vote to elect congress and essentially representatives to elect the president as well. No decision is made straight from popular vote. It goes through representatives who may or may not vote how they're sections of people voted.

I will rep you when I have spread the love...
So let me get this straight. In the US, I am assuming each State has a voted for representative. Like if Alaska had 10 million people, and voted for John Smith to be the representative, at like the big voting "Should we attack Iraq" vote thing, John Smith would be worth 10 million votes? Meanwhile James Brown from Nebraska, might be worth 15 million etc? Edit: Rep is done. Last edited by Dupe of USSJed; 06-17-2008 at 06:21 AM. |

As Engel, Masked Felix, and Niku pointed out, both have flaws.
Everything completely equal and the "sharing is caring" thought of communism works to a certain extent, but as the above people pointed out, those that really don't deserve what the get, get it anyway. Democracy also fails to an extent because half the time people want a certain thing, but don't know what they're getting themselves into, so they screw it up. =\ And hell, even then we usually don't know WHAT we want to begin with. Life suxx0rz guyz.
