The world ending while I'm still alive would be fucking awesome.

However, I think politics, global warming, rising oceans, oil pricing and a few nuclear holocausts will have exterminated the human race long before the life of the planet actually ends.

No, they weren't.

The Spaniards arrived right after their peak in power and activity. If I remember correctly. Because there are still people today that have Mayan blood in them and that speak different dialects of Mayan. I've met a few of them, and it's hard to communicate because they speak a mix of Spanish and Mayan.

Water gets smaller when it melts, though. If you stock up a glass with Ice and water, when the ice melts, the cup doesn't overflow. Ice is more expansive than water.

Ah, I had it confused. I had attributed the Mayan decline in the 1000's or so to be when their empire dissolved. It's been awhile since I had Strunc. I know the Mayans are still around.

True, but we're talking hundreds or thousands of glaciers melting. That's enough to topple the "replacement" theory that the water levels wouldn't rise.

If water works a certain way, why in the world is it going to change with volume? If the glaciers take up less space that they used to, I fail to see how things rise. It's the same amount of water, just in a different state of matter. Specifically in a state that takes up less space. The only thing I can see different is that some of the glacier juts out of the water (Like having Ice extend above the top of the glass. I'm going to try this and see what happens), so I suppose there would be a little bit of a rise, but nothing cataclysmic. The oceans are very, very vast.

I am not going to be like all of thoose people that stocked up for like a nuclear winter during the Y2K thing.

I would rather just die, then go through all of that trouble.

I believe that the world will end on December 21st 2012, since both Nostradomus(sp) and The Mayans predicted it and as far as I know they have never been wrong.

Also there are alot of sign such as global warming that the world will end.

The ice melting isn't going to cause the sea to overflow. Then, if it does, it'll possily be like an inch for everywhere which aint much. The ice is already taking up space, when it melts, that space is spread out, but still taken up thus keeping the same water level. The only thing that the glaciers melting does is lessens the cold front which makes everything else hotter.

As for Nostradamus, all he had to do was sraw pictures in a book. The human mind can easily create something that represents another thing when there is the possibility that what is being thought up is actually the opposite. If someone announces and it gains a little ground, more people begin to think that it was right. It's like a picture book for desperate histoians wanting his name in the world.

The thing about Nostradamus and the book of revelations for that matter is that all the predictions are so vast and so vague that the predictions thus far have only been deemed true after the events happen. Anyone can say fire will reign from the sky and anyone can see that as meaning a plane crashing or something.

Well, you have to account for the fact that warmer water expands. I believe the statistic is that ocean levels have risen 4 to 8 inches just from that. Then there's the polar ice caps (Greenland and Antarctica) which are the real dangers for ocean level rise as they are...massive. There's quite a bit of ice over the water which, if melted and added to the water, could cause the increase in sea levels. And even a small increase in sea level is bad news for people low-elevated areas...like Florida.

I don't think Nostradamus predicted anything...on purpose. Anyone can make connections. And if he did make accurate predictions knowing more or less exactly what they were, well I doubt there were any good forces helping him out.
