I agree with Empathy in that something needs to be done about this... however, I regret to say that it shouldn't be America's responsibility. For one thing, we're half way across the world. Who does the world think we are, the popular kid in school? Whenever something happens to a country that we barely keep in memory, does the whole world turn their eyes on us expecting, even demanding, a reaction? We are in no situation to turn over money to another country. If individual citizens feel sympathetic, then an organization like the Tsunami Relief group will appear in order to give these people financial aid for repairs. And even in our financial crisis, Bush is still offering them financial aid(because he's a fecking genious). The Myanmarese government does not want to accept it, because as Empathy said, they don't give a fuck, and they like to keep their problems private.

yes people have good reasons to expect that because americans boast about how great and powerful their nation is... so it is up to said nation to back up the boasts of power and wealth... -_-

If someone told you we were boasting about wealth, they were lying. We're hundreds of trillions of dollars in debt because our president is more concerned with trying to suck his own dick than taking care of the country. And as a matter of fact, Another global Superpower, China, is less than 1,000 miles North of Myanmar, and India isn't too far away either. My point is this; let's say I made a had a decent conversation with someone in line for a movie "this movie looks really good", "yeah, its supposed to be dope", "oh its starting", "later skipper.", something like that. Let's say this person lives in Texas and I live in New York. This persons house burns down. Imaginably, there are plenty of other people closer and more capable of helping this person more efficiently than I can, so why should I make the trip just becuse I'm aware of this? Surely a neighbor, some one capable, if not inevietably bound, to witness the damage would help, or should.

Well, the reason I think America should do something about it is because, in most cases, America has pulled through and helped out certain countries. We have a reputation of "world police." I am proud of my country, in a sense, but I don't wear shirts with American flags on it and my car isn't covered in bumper stickers that say, "These colors don't run." I can see Vivi being like that, though.

That's why I find Empathy most respectable in these situations, because he speaks in point of facts and of understanding. Anyway yeah, my teacher brought it up in class today and she told us that Bush actually offered aid multiple times, but they're denying it repeatedly.

Maybe it's because Bush is the one offering it.
-End of Bad Joke- From what I understand, the Burmese government is a group of pompous, power-centric individuals. And if that isn't the case, then their pride is going to leave the blood of their citizens on their hands.

I only know as much as I ask/hear about in school. Unfortunately, I'm not an avid history student. It's an interesting subject, but not something I put my pride in. However, being that my grandparents met the fate they did, I am particularly interested in events concerning genocide, human atrocities, and the like.

Lol, we're opposites. I'm horrible at social studies and excel greatly at math.

Both of my grandfathers were victims of Serbian tyranny, one before the actual cleansing defending a girl who was going to be kidnapped, and the other who was actually killed in a machine gun line up, my grandmother then lost her will to keep going, and became a slump in her bed. She died five years ago. Plus, four of my uncles, and three of cousins were part of the KLA/UÇK, so naturally, I've developed an interest in this particular event in general. However travesties like Tiananmen Square, Bloody Sunday, the Armenian Genocide, the Holocaust, etc. etc. I usually give deeper interest to.

And you got a rep about the bumper sticker comment, srsly, good stuff. (And I am a patriot, but I don't go where American flag t-shirts all the time, although I would wear one if I had one. But I'd have political humor bumper stickers, such as "Al Gore may not have invented the Internet, but he sure made up Global Warming.")
