That also could be thought of as torture.
Think about it. You would have to live the rest of your life with no freedom. Poets would compare prisoners to birds in a cage, probably.
But, better that than letting them go. And finishing people off... After a long and well done case in which great brutality was used to kill people. And the case would be crystal clear. I'd say, after those demands are met, then give 'em a quick and painless death.

Quite frankly, I don't know. I don't know at all. I've switched sides countless times on this one, and whether it is truly ever justified seems beyond me...to determine.

I don't really know. I mean, isn't a life-sentence the worst torture of all? And, is permanently taking away someone's freedom more of a violation of the human rights than killing him?
Physical or otherwise torture shouldn't be applied at all. It's like sinking back into the middle ages, and worse.
Personally, I view every punishment as a violation of human rights. Point is, we're enforced to apply punishment. Under that logic, I would say that the capital punishment would be suiting for the ultimate criminals... serial killers, rapists, drug bosses... But still I don't know.
Funny thing is, that, even though I question the right to use killing as a penalty, if ever (God forbid) someone killed, raped, or somehow did irreparable damage to one of my family members, or someone I'm close with, I don't think I could rest until I've given everything I have to kill him with my own two hands. That sounds a little dramatic, but that's actually the truth as far as I'm concerned.

We've advanced a long way from the *olden days*
Before, if you looked at someone funny they come and Hungyou, Quarter you, disembowl you, shoot you, and what not.
Today if you stole a piece of candy, The Government isn't going to hunt you down, and kill you on the spot.
So we've advanced alot, considering the death penalty.

[/quote]So??? As long as we're not doing anything to hurt you I want they to live 1000 years in a cage, God is much more forgiving them humans. All you have to do to get into heaven is say your sorry to him, meaning if you kill someone that killed someone they will just pray and never be punished because when the die there be going to the best place any where. Killing is different than putting someone in a place were they are feed, allowed to sleep, talk to people and Work out/read/ Thats there punishment thats better than just killing them and shipping them off to heavon.

I myself am really undecided. Is a whole life-time of jail truly worse than death itself? I'm not sure which is better.
Maybe we could have criminals choose whether they want a life sentence or the death sentence?

Jail time? I don't think it would be as bad as death. Maybe solitary for life, that would be a whole lot worse.
