He's a good character, although as an element of the story he's meant to be a static "wise master" of Star Wars.

Yoda is awesome. I didn't know he was strong until episode 2 since none of us saw him fight in the original trilogy or episode 1.

If you see the original trilogy, you can see that he is an incredibly powerful Jedi, based on the way other characters act around him.

Yoda's meant to be the opposite of Emperor Palpatine, in that while Palpatine embodies the values of the Sith and the Dark Side of the Force, Yoda provides a strong moral center for everyone.
