Depends on you doesn't it. Are you dressing up to pretend your someone else so you can stop being yourself, or are you doing it for plain simple fun? I personally don't think normal gatherings of cosplay people for no reason to dressing up for halloween is the same.

I remember some due on an old forum i was a member off, dressed up in various costumes ranging from a Jedi to a sort ofold school snes shooter hero. Only this was his normal clothes. I think he sat in his room for the majority of the day in this gear and went online. I'd rather he went out in public in it, would of been less disturbing.

He was one of those 'never leaves the room' - 'WOW is my world' nerds possibly.
It's just when you asked "Are you dressing up to pretend your someone else so you can stop being yourself" I was reminded of him.

Ah I see. Some people are just like that. All I can say at least their happy and their not hurting anyone or themselves.
It not fun when you hear in the UK; how much money people are costing the government for criminal damage, as well the number of castrophies. |

Yeah he wasn't hurting anyone, I just kinda felt sad for him. Hopefully he's gotten out more or had more opportunity to. I think he had friends who hung out and were like him, which is good.

Do you know if he had parents? I mean good parents would want him to socialise wouldn't they? Most problems with people in this would stem down to their parents or guardians whatever.

I think he lived with his parents. Though he never really complain. THere were odd posts here and there where he would agree with someone about how boring their town is and how no one there seemed to ever want to try something new or have fun.
But I mean there's only so much a parent can do. Though sometimes it could be parents that cause this. Some people are isolated through no fault of their own, be it a bland place to live or just surrounded by people who are just as inward and don't want to hang out or be friends. Then you got people who genuinely seem to enjoy their own company and isolation. Then you got hikikomori which is a whole different kettle of mad fish....

Hikikomori is something that seems to happen primarily in Japan but can happen in other places in the world.
Due to whatever reason, numerous as they are: society pressure, educational pressure ect - a person usually in their teens will lock themselves or confined themselves to their rooms. They live there basically. Everything is done in or through there. They eat in there, will order everything they need or want online and have no social contact, sometimes even their families are 'forbidden by them' to enter. It can last for weeks, months, years, I'm not sure what the longest duration is. It's also thought of as something shameful for the family to endure. I'm not entirely sure if it's officially classed as a mental or what have you disease. I saw a documentary about it on BBC2 a few years ago and that was the first time I had come across it. It was an interesting thing to watch.

Oh I see. Wow, I've never heard of anything like that. Of course small things where people just don't go out or spend hours upon hours in their bed room, but I didn't know it went to that extent.
Theres me thinking it was a member I missed on MFG. |
