Maybe Gameplay could improve a bit more, but really once they get virtual reality or something it won't get much better.

You make it sound so simple. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Let me explain it. With better hardware come bigger levels. And more content in those levels. And there's plenty of room left to improve graphics, even if you aren't going for photrealism. You could see all sorts of things, from the smallest wave of grass on a windy day, to an entire planet disappearing an explosion. The more room you have to expand the better. And there's still the software side to things. There'll be advances in AI technology and the other heaps of programming that goes into game making. Heck, some character's might even act so realistic, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between them and real people if you tried. Then there's the gameplay. A lot of game creators have started to make it so the gamers themselves can create their own vision. Things like XNA Studios and games like Spore are perfect examples. With the imagination of the human mind, there is no limt. And who knows? They might abandon the console stage all together. The future game creators might move towards a 3D Virtual World. Do you no how epic it would be to be able to feel as though you are actually flying at mach speed? Lifting tons? Blasting a Kamehameha out of your palms? Even from there, the future could hold something I couldn't possibly imagine. That's what the human race is all about. Going above and beyond what we could ever think possible. Piercing through the heavens with a mighty drill. Who the hell do you think we are?

Yes I see what you are getting at, but honestly I don't see how a game could improve past flawless 3d Virtual Reality with every aspect of physics intergrated into the game(in other words...real life). And imo that could be possible in 20 or 30 years at the rate technology is increasing.

I'm sure people 2000 years ago didn't even think about video games existing. People even centuries ago would laugh at the idea of flying. They'd shit themselves if we told them we'd reach the moon.

That's different. I'm sure they could physically imagine flying up to the moon(maybe not in a ship...considering they'd never seen one).

Sure, there's probably technology in the future we can't imagine, but video games aren't one of them.
