Keep in mind that the Japanese kanji are mostly all archaic to the Chinese.

Unfortunately the Chinese writing was the first one to enter Japan, hence we have fucking Kanjis. It all could have turned out so well if the Portugese had been in Zipangu first >_>
And for the record, we have a) Kanjis with an On and Kun reading, b) Hiragana mainly for grammar and c) Katakana for the foreign stuff such as RAITO.

Actually, classifying "American English" as just that is foolish, we've got many different dialects. People from the north speak in an entirely different manner than those in the south. And there's differences all over America.

As for what Raven was saying, I completely agree, Spanish is the most useful language (Second to English) in the United States. Now if you lived next to Canada, maybe you could use French. (But it's not like we're being illegally invaded by Canadians at the rate we are from Mexico.)

So what? We have plenty of regional accents too. We still call it "English". We don't call it "Welsh English", or "Scottish English" or even "Mancunian English". They all have their own little nuances and ways of saying things, but they're still the same language.

You know, if both languages use kanjis, then I can't understand why some people would think that they are the same. I'm not part of the demographic who thinks that they are similar, but I certainly wouldn't flame someone for thinking such.

And, to be fair, Latin is the grandmother language of most european languages, so a lot of them are similar in subtle ways.

Yeah, but the Japanese kanji were created back in the Han Dynasty. Modern Chinese characters have changed drastically in pronunciation and appearance, as far as I know.
