All I will say is that the relationship I described above was a first for both of us and we were young and stupid. The end fallout phase can be avoided by accepting that the other person is as human and as flawed as you are. A successful relationship recognises that and comes back from the brink with understanding and talking things through. The funnest relationships even regress back into the first phase; trying new things out and re-setting new boundaries.

(Note: I am not advocating unlimited hedonism or fetishism (or even sexual activity at all), but doing new things or going back to things you did when you were first together can keep it fresh. Remember where you came from. Keeping that bond alive helps a lot.)

This was first brought up by Hal, and I agree it is a serious danger here, as well as mind games and emotional fallout from the History.

The matter of distinguishing whether a person is capable of mind games or not, that's easy if you are good at reading people, or you are just paranoid. Like me.

Also, accepting flaws should come naturally, since perfection cannot be achieved by any means necessary. And basically, if you do not accept flaws of a person, you do not accept the person him/herself. Which is rather an insult to them, don't you think?

Quite an easy thing to say, but still - It is better to be content with what you have.

Not an expert. What I have learned is from a huge amount of trial and a large amount of error, and I am as much to blame as anyone else. I have also learned from observing others.

Now, the thing is, I don't even trust myself to apply this knowledge in situations involving myself, especially when personal emotions get involved and cloud the issues. But, I do try.

What I also meant to say earlier is:

Even if you know that there is a possibility of things not working out (always true), that is no reason not to try. You can and will have fun and experiences on the path, wherever it leads. Even if it doesn't work, if you manage to split amicably, everyone gains from the experience.

A new development in the story: my friend is a bastard. He said he doesn't care if anyone dates her or anyone sleeps with her, as long as he sleeps with her first. Yep. He's a sane human being, and he doesn't care if any of his friends have sex with her, as long as it's after him. This is too weird.
