Contact the Better Business Bureau, I've had a similar situation with my x place of employment.
Withholding checks and such made me do it and he is is currently unemployed.

Neither. You said that you let working overtime without being clocked in slip over a long period of time before you confronted Robert. The first or second time it happened you should have talked to him about it. Even if the same thing that happened now happened then, you would know never to work off the clock for him or let him punch you out, since you weren't going to be payed for it. Since you didn't, I can only side with Robert in the important lesson he was trying to teach you. Working off of the clock doesn't pay. I'm sure that in an alternate scenario, you and him could have been best friends.

While I somewhat agree with your synopsis there, I'm pretty sure that if Robert's actions weren't illegal, they were certainly unethical.
