Default Canadian Cringe

BBC NEWS | Americas | Passenger beheaded on Canada bus

News story I heard about this morning. What it makes me think of is Jason or Michael Myers. Discuss please and if a thread of this had been done, thy thou not seen it yet.

It reminds me of why I must always be prepared, I see why my uncle told me to get brass knuckles since I use public transportation.

Very strange? Might be and crazy in the same line? I've never heard of it, just saw it in movies. It's passed crazy, it's complete pandemonium. What makes me think is what could have of us had done had anyone else been in that situation.

Slightly similar to the gun attack at the university a long time ago. Only difference is that it wasn't a gun and running away would save you in this situation. Of course people are never prepared, I couldn't expect anything more. I can't imagine how much blood was gushing over the place.

DISCLAIMER: The item described below is highly illegal in the UK and probably is elsewhere. Check local laws before even attempting to own one and understand that if you do, you may be arrested.

You might want to look into one of these:

Kubotan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To the untrained eye, it looks like a key ring accessory and not like a weapon at all (note disclaimer above, police will know what this item is - heck, reading the Wiki article, police are actually trained in its use). To the untrained user, it can be used as a strike enhancer (hold it and hit people with the end) or a rudimentary flail (hold the keys and swing it).

Highly trained users can use it to lock, break and even dislocate fingers with ease.

@topic: That is really fucked up.

Kubotan, what exactly is it? It appears to be a notched piece of plastic, but is it more like a whip of some sort?

The large paragraph in the Wiki article explains its use in depth. As far as it being a notched piece of plastic, yep, that's exactly what it is. The article notes that it is basically an officially weaponised version of an improvised weapon, and you could use a stick or a pen as an improvised version.

Interesting weapon indeed. I'm aware that mostly anything like a weapon might get you arrested but you can get permits for weapons. If you can get a permit for a gun, well there's nothing worse than that so to me it makes no sense to let people get permits for guns but not strictly weapons that are only (mainly) used for self defense and close up.

I was told that in cases where I have to defend myself or anyone else you wouldn't get arrested for using a weapon. By that I mean life threatening situations. Thanks for the heads up.

Plastic knuckles are legal, and believe me they hurt almost as bad.

They are useful. Especially if you get trained with them.

Ok, these are the knuckles I ordered, these are legal or illegal by law?
Brass Knuckles Company Poly-Carbon Stealth Knuckles - NEW!
They go by the name of poly-carbon stealth knuckles.

If it's not ok to have them on can one get a permit for it?

But really, I like this better than everything else as far as instant stoppage is concerned without maiming someone: Brass Knuckles Company Blast Knuckle Stun Gun - 950,000 volts
It's the closest thing a human could get as close to a Chidori as possible, lol.

But I'm not even sure if stun knuckles would have worked on the guy on the bus.

The easiest way to find this out is to call your nearest large police station. Don't use the emergency number, call the front desk.

Yes, the local police would be able to tell you. Also, those aren't going to be detected by any weapons scanners so you could have it on you all the time and no one would know anyways.
