Yeah, I lol'd at "태영씨." I used to have summa the people who couldn't pronounce my long-ass name as it's written in English just call me "탱", or at least I tried. Gave up, and had people call me "T" instead lol. But my parents just call me "태영아", almost never 이태영. So yeah, 태영이. But yeah, I totally agree on how hard Chinese is to read and write. I can read some stuff, namely my own name (barely) and such, but I just can't bring myself to write it. Wonder how the Chinese or Japanese manage lol. Though there is that simplification...

Those who can't pronounce your name are just hella lazy. I mean, how difficult can it be? It's just two syllables. On the other hand, my name consists of two syllables too (I don't bother saying my last name, it's TOO LONG), but foreigners can't pronounce it to save their lives.

Mm... the last time I talked to a Japanese member of MFG (whose username I forgot, now I remember his real name =.=), he said that it's a total pain learning kanji. And they could perfectly survive with just kana, but traditions, traditions... As for Chinese well... they're another story... *shrugs*

Could the chinese characters for your name be...永?
lol, I know there are several possibilities, and I'm probably dead wrong, but I'm just guessing xD

Oh, the "태" is for "grand" or "great" and 영 is for 영화, not for movies (I'm not even much of a fan), but for "honor" or "fame," things like that. 태영 isn't that common a name, though I do often find people with it, but we all have different "Kanji" for almost every one since around (or over) 70% of Korean words outside of the basics you use in everydasy life are of Chinese origin, or 한자. I'm still a hell of a rookie when it comes to said writing, so I haven't really got that much of a clue you've written there (lol), but the first 한자 would be 泰, second 榮. I actually had to copypaste for the both of them as I don't have the faintest of clues as to how to actually type them so I looked in the online dictionary. Rock on, lo..

I wouldn't say "dead wrong" though. For you to know that much about our hanja pronounciations when I, a native, really don't, is enough of an accomplishment in itself. *scratches head and wishes I took those lessons a bit more seirously*

xD I just remembered seeing the first hanja in some other name with 'tae', but I can't remember its real meaning now. And the second one 永, means "forever" or "eternity", I think. Like in 영원히?

And it's not that much of learning. I just happen to remember stuff I come across randomly.

Well, for a non-native it's pretty big an accomplishment (even if you actually attend school for that), so don't worry about it, it's cool. Heck, I'm a native and spent the first twelve years of my life in Korea, and I even lazed out of what 한자 영원히 is actually composed of, lmao.

@Sloth: If we were goin' down that road, I'd fucking have Korean, Gogureo-an, Joseunian, Sillanian, English, American, New Zealander, Aussie, Canadian, Chinese, American, and crap of the like whose list would engulf the forums... >_>

lol, 태영아, it's obvious that Sloth was joking. It's just this so-called variety of "Englishes". Meh. Speaking of varieties, I might be weird, but I really like the way Jeolla-nam and Chung-nam (well those provinces with Gwangju and Gongju as capitals) dialects sound. One is so strong and the other is pretty cute xD

But that's just an opinion of a silly foreigner ^^;;

lol, who said being a fangirl doesn't contribute to your geography knowledge? xD
But you can speak the language! I can't. I still know Japanese better. *sniff*
(but I can't read it though... forgot all the kana I knew because of hangul xD)

Hangul has that effect. =/

Actually, the reason I remember that would be because of that one summer I spent out of the country (America, where I resided in prior) totally fucked my English knowledge and I had to get it all through to me again. Was gettin' Ds in school, and I fucking blamed my grandparents for it. Those people-spoiling little *****s. >_>

Lol, kidding! Hangul is seriously waay too easy though. I won't brag, but I think I was around three or four (in the Korean way of dating from birth) when I could read and write it. If I hadn't become such a picky-as-hell eater whose diet consists of nothing but 두부 and 불고기, I'd be one hell of an articulate little asshole, lol. Too bad I got 왕따'd (do you know that one yet?) in school so much they knocked one of my teeth out at one point V_V

lol, i only know that 왕 is "king". what's wangtta - no idea xD The only idea which comes to mind is that you were bullied by kingkas at school. lol, eating nothing but bulgogi? xDDD

btw, i don't think that ability to read depends much on the type of script, but brother knew how to read at the age of 3 as well. Maybe he would have learned it sooner, but he didn't learn how to speak well until he was 4 xDD

I kinda held back from replyin' to this as 왕따 brings back loathesome memories, but this forum's //a// garbage has motivated me to do so... at least later (yeah, I know you've pretty much been checking in for that response 하지만-). Basically, it's an acronym-esque portmanteau of king and 따돌림, hence 왕따.
