Hmmm... seem a bit of an old thread... meh, what the hell.
Anyways, I see that most of the members took care of your Q. Though, I would like to say that according to most of the Judo people I talk to, they say that their "senseis" told them not to lift too much weights or you'll become... what's the word? Inflexible? At least something along those lines. But I ignore them anyways and do my weight lifting training. I use dumbells for curls, usually 40 pounds on each one. I do 5 sets of 5 repetitions. If I want to finish quickly, I'll do 10 repetitions for one set. Though, I use a portion of my body to swing it a little (For momentum when I get tired), so I don't really think you are up for the challenge. Oh, one thing you should remember. DON'T concentrate on just one muscle. Having biceps is cool and all, but there should be a balance. So, obviously, mix the trainings up. Like, exercises for the triceps, the back, legs also, and of course, the classical crunch for the abs. DO NOT do sit ups. Crunches have been stated to be more effective and less dangerous. Though, I gotta give props to the sit ups. They got me a long distance. Also, do not over-exert yourself. Muscles don't appear over night. So don't workout everday. Oh and, if you got anymore questions, you should ask WeKillYouAll. He seems to know his way around a gym... hopefully it's not a gay gym... err... Yeah. >_> =/ Lulz J/K EDIT: BTW, when you say you can do 386 repetitions with 8 pounds... do you mean consecutive? Cause that'll be... =O (Same question goes for the 75 Push Ups)

I would wait until your a bit older for the heavy weight bud, you still need your growth plates to grow. Try light to medium weight for higher reps (3 to 4 sets, 5-10 reps decreasing as you end your exercise).
Try to focus on a certain muscle group every different workout. *Examples* Monday-chest, Tuesday-Back, Weds-Bi's and Tri's, Thursday-Legs, Friday-Shoulders, Saturday-rest, Sunday-Plyometrics. Alter it anyway you like but thats what I do currently (coming back from an injury). Also, try to incorporate Abs every other day in your routine. However, the most important part of your workout is your diet. Try to eat 1.5x your weight in protein and base your meals off of a 6 meal, 2000+ diet. It all depends on how bad you want it. try pushing yourself to failure (if you carry a partner in the gym). You'll get it, it takes patience and persistence....nothing is impossible

Yeah man that makes no sense.... 8lbs is something my sister's little friends lift. No matter how much you do it's still not enough resistance!

There is little point in lifting so little weight so many times.
In fact, in your age if you wanna be in best shape, you should better go to train a sport like swimming, and wait till you get older.

Yeah. Sort a routine out for yourself, like workin' on triceps and chest one day, then biceps and back, then legs another day etc. Watch your diet too... eat loads of meat and fish. Balance your diet with different compounds, like proteins and carbohydrates. And take your shake at the same time per day.
You'll be hench in no time. |
