You see that "Halcyon"? My opinion still stands on why half the people don't like good/popular movies.

Saw is just gore essentially, you can say that there's a deep train of thought and well written scripts or whatever, but there's a difference between an entertaining scary film and something that doesn't quite scare someone but makes them feel horrid for watching it. I wouldn't say Saw was about gore (and leave my statement at that), I'd say it was about people's fascination with sick and twisted scenarios. Most films can get points across without showing the slicing of tendons or the twisting bone cruching agony of a device strapped to a human being. That's just my opinion, each to their own.

Also, if you say there was only gore and no story, you didn't pay much attention to any of the movies. The first movie was two guys sitting in the room together with a dead body, who supposedly didn't know anything about each other. Shackled to the walls they have limited movement but are able to find two hacksaws, which they initially believe to be used to cut the chains. Throughout the movie, more information comes to light as to why they are there, and ultimately revealed that the younger guy has been taking photographs of the doctor visiting another woman. The doctor is supposed to kill the younger guy to win the game and save his family. There is a gun (which the man who is dead blew his brains out with), and a pool of blood rich in a poison. Through a recording Jig-Saw tells the doctor he can put poison on the cigarette and kill the photographer. The doctor thinks better of it and plans on trying to fool Jig-Saw, who they believe to be watching through a camera and wouldn't be able to tell a fake death from the real thing. It doesn't work, and the doctor ends up freaking out and sawing off his own foot and crawling away in some desperate attempt to save his family (as we see later on, he doesn't make it far). There's some action going on at the doctor's home, where a man (assumed to be Jig-Saw) has captured the wife and daughter of the doctor. There is a struggle over a gun and the wife manages to come out on top. Inside the room with the photographer, the dead body that's been laying in the center rises up and peels away the "gore" on his head. Walks to the door and slams it shut, leaving the photographer to die inside. Pretty good if I would say so myself. |

The twist at the end of the 1st Saw was good, I'll give it that. From then on the main objective of the films were to sicken people and no attempt at throwing in a storyline or making it seem like it's layered psychological undertones changes that. Again just my opinion.
I don't believe any films or media that is that raw and sick serves any purpose in the entertainment field other than to pick at people's love of disturbing content...which in itself is disturbing.

Saw II was pretty boring, mainly because there wasn't as much story put into it. There were still a couple twists.
Saw III wasn't bad, but I fucking hated the actor that played Jig-Saw's assistant. Aside from that it connected to the other movies well and was kind of mindfucking. Haven't seen Saw IV. |

That was the girl right? Yeah see that actress is famous for playing ditzy characters, like in Becker. I didn't quite get her as being a good apprentice for such a sicko.

I couldn't actually watch the film in the cinema so I spent most of my time trying to remember where I saw her from.

Shawnee Smith is the actress's name.
I liked the first Saw movie because even though it had bad acting a low budget, Jigsaw doesn't fall into the same group as Freddy, Leatherface, or Jason. He's more toward the idea of Hannibal Lecter, but not as classy or realistic. The scary thing about the Hannibal Lecter is that he's a realistic killer, simply because his environment and the surrounding characters are not primarily fantasy-based, they are very believable. Even though I must say that Hannibal comes close to one of movies on my suck list, the book was indeed better because this is actually where his younger sister Mischa was introduced, but she didn't show up in the movies until Hannibal Rising. However, the book really sucked at the end when him and Clarice end up in Argentina as a couple running from the law. Saw 3 was the worst of all four SAWs in my opinion. Other ones that got extreme hype but I didn't care for were the Lord of the Rings movies. But however, they aren't going on my suck list because of the fact that they were so well made.
