Good look with you and your friend, Empathy. Depending on what your after, starting slow as Felix suggested is definitely a good option. Group outings will help ease the "weirdness" of the situation as well, especially if you don't know each other very well.

Guys tend to forget that females aren't much different from males. There's NO reason to get all frustrated when trying to talk to them; address them the same way you do your male friends.

It also helps if whatever you plan on doing with her is something that you both enjoy, that way you don't have to research it or pretend to like it. Genuine enthusiasm is better than the feux stuff.
