While in high school and competing in three sports I was big on lifting weights but I also did non-weighted exercises, such as push-ups, diamond push-ups, and one handed push-ups (my favorite type in fact). I loved doing squats, bench press, and leg press. I also did work on my forearms by rolling a weight up tied to a string.
I like push-ups and sit-ups too though, I mean you can be in great shape with that alone. You don't need weights to be strong or cut, just good training and good resistance training in my opinion. The right workout can be beneficial to anyone, regardless of the process in which it is accomplished.
