I'm actually in total agreement with Kaio. No human has every done a good dead of great effort on a whim. It is to satisfy your own feelings of empathy and sympathy that you do people favors. You can choose to not look at it this way, but that's the way I see it.

My point was that why can't everyone just see that Allah and the Christian god are the same being? The basic idea is the exact same, it's just just that there different details about each one. If everyone just looked at it as these different gods are really simply spawned from the same idea of a single deity, it would end more wars and other extreme acts than you realize.....

when i was younger all i cared about was myself it was like no one else existed til one day, after that day i started carring about others i even swore that if i ever became rich i would donate 87% of that money to charities around the world. i even now consider other people's lifeves more important than my own, in my early yrs at high school i never donated to fundraisers but in yr 10 i start to donate i think from yr 10 - yr12 i donated a total of $1,275.50

If it were that easy, we wouldn't have wars and religion (not so sure about poverty). Truth is, humanity does care about something: Money and power (though I'm not quite sure wether you can actually seperate those two). Everything, even religion, is based on money and power. Money is the reason we screw the environment and it's inhabitants all over and power is the reason why most religous and all other wars were started.

@Collins: The mere fact that you told us about you donating money proves that in the end you did it for selfish reasons. I'm donating as well, but normally I wouldn't tell everyone about it. However, I'm fully aware that even though I don't tend to brag with it, I'm still doing it to feel better, hence I'm selfish.
Don't get the wrong idea though, I'm only willing to support animals and/or the environment.

Thanks for being a stoner....Dude what is wrong with you. Doing something that you care about is not being 'selfish.' Even if it does make you feel good overall it helps someone else out more than you. I think that outways the 'selfishness' of the act.

Did you even take the time to read what this thread is about?
And besides doing something that you care about is totally being selfish as you do it for yourself, get it? For example, I care about animals, I want to help them so I donate money among other things. I'm doing this because in the end it makes me feel good to know that this money goes to animals in need. See? Selfishness doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing.

And btw. if your post was directed towards me (and I assume it was: I'm not a dude.

I'm just saying people don't have to look at it from this point of view. Than why would life be worth living if everything you do is 'selfish' and for yourself. I like to think I'm at least doing something that is not 'selfish' at all.
