Well, I enjoyed some FF games and they wouldn't be shit without D&D's foundation in the 80's so I am indebted to him for that (ground-breaking the rpg genre). Never actually played it tho.

I suppose now's as good a time as any to point out that Record of Lodoss War started as a D&D adventure between friends. Who knows how many others.

I wouldn't say Final Fantasy games wouldn't be anything without Dungeons & Dragons. That's like saying Sly Cooper wouldn't be what it is today if it weren't for Metal Gear Solid.

They share some elements but it's safe to say the game would still be what it is today, regardless if the first didn't come out or make it big.

Uhh...No. I would certainly say the NES and SNES FF games had ALLOT in common with D&D. Where MGS and Sly Cooper had next to nothing in common.

I would agree with you, but I know very little of D&D so I can't exactly argue against Hal's point.

I guess I can make myself clear like this: D&D laid a foundation just like Mario and the Legend of Zelda helped lay foundations for platformers.

Zelda wasn't a platformer.

About the only thing that FF and D&D have in common is working as a party and playing in some fantasy setting.

The only thing Sly Cooper and Metal Gear Solid have in common is that you are supposed to sneak around and have a contact that supplies information on your missions.

The origin of RPG games was D&D. FF may not even exist without it. Thus, FF owes allot to D&D. The whole Genre does.
