Yeah, definitely one of the best events this year. Too bad for War Machine though, I wanted him to pull through with the victory but instead he takes a nap. As did Jardine, he was down for like 3 minutes. That was Classic Silva... the entrance music, the shaved head, the staredown. I already knew Jardine was in trouble. In Machida's fight he used his elusive style to avoid the takedown, even the ref couldn't take Machida's footwork and fell on his ass. Gotta give credit to Tito though, after taking that knee to the liver he recovered well and slipped on that slick triangle, Dana must've been shitting his pants when that happened. BJ Penn just took out Sherk like everyone knew he would, but funny he would wait for the last 10 secs of the round to finish him. The flying knee came out of nowhere and hit him clean, the two punches afterwards pretty much put him out for a sec, then he woke up after another punch.
The other fights were pretty good too. Overall, I enjoyed watching the event, it was a stellar card and didn't disappoint. |

I thought this was a tremendous event. 9 of the 11 fights were shown and only one shown actually went to a decision. Machida looks to be the real deal and I look forward to see him fighting a more vaulted opponent in his next bout. Some people find his style boring, but I am very appreciative of his technique.
Sherk vs Penn was actually a pretty well boxed fight by both fighters. If Sherk didn't have t-rex arms with no power he might've faired a lot better. Silva looked like the Wanderlei of old and its good to see him get back on track. I still think Jardine is a solid fighter with his actually merit somewhere in between his Chuck win and inability to handle true elite fighters in Silva. Post 85 (or whatever number this is) it becomes clear to me that Penn needs to move up. Sherk is clearly the UFC's second best lightweight and Penn beat him rather convincingly. Florian/Guida/Griffin/Edgar/Maynard/Aurelio are good fighters but are not good enough to beat a top-notch Penn. At 170 Penn can go to war with Hughes for the third and final time plus a rematch with GSP in the distance as well. Penn would also have to deal with fighters much larger than himself and with a better skill base than green 155 pound division. Fighters like Karo, Koscheck, Fitch and Alves all present a Penn with a formidable challenge. Something I do not think the 155 pound division offers at the moment - outside of Sherk vs Penn 2. |

I only had time to watch Kimbo vs. Thompson, but I've seen the results. Not impressed. I don't think it's worth watching the whole event. However I will check out Lawler's fight.
And for WEC today, I see Torres and Pulver winning it. |

WEC 34 was good. The two title fights were awesome, but I'm disappointed in Jens Pulver. Maeda versus Torres was a great fight though.
Don't bother watching any of the other fights. There were doctor stoppages galore. The Kimbo fight was a joke. That wasn't even MMA on CBS Saturday night.

I'm not very happy with Pulver either, but then again, Faber was fighting pretty dirty.
Yeah, Saturday's event made the sport look BAD. Even Bas said Kimbo's fight should've been stopped in the 2nd round... however I've gotta admit, Thompson's cauliflower ear exploding was awesome. I have no idea why he didn't drain it. |

Elite XC was a horrible event to showcase MMA to the world. Lawler/Smith was the only fight on the card outside of the woman's fight to showcase a fighter with a legitimate chance of being in the top 10-15 for their weight class (Lawler). Actually I take that back. Joey is also a top 15 middleweight.
Torres is quickly becoming a rising star for WEC. He put on quite a show tonight, I loved the double Achilles heel locks...though Torres didn't have a true figure four like his opponent did. I don't think Faber meant to do the groin shot or the poke to the eye and it didn't really impact the fight. I mean he was controlling it basically start to finish. I'd like to see Kid vs Faber at 145... dream match-up |

It wasn't just the eye poke and groin kick that made Faber seem dirty. When he dropped Pulver early in the fight, he barraged the back of his head with at least six or seven punches, while the ref didn't bother saying a thing.
I don't really like anyone else at 145 now. If Faber and Kid fought, I'd be hoping for a double KO.
