Is that really what Quarry was doing? I read somewhere that Steve Urkel did it once on that show a long time ago. Oh well.
I want to see Nate Quarry versus Chris Leben. I wish I won a contest to where I could organize an entire future card. Mac Danzig versus Nate Diaz and Ricardo Almeida versus Demian Maia. Instant gold.

I'm bringing this back up because it's my favourite thread in this lounge and its pretty much gone.
What'd you two think of the Aoki and JZ fight if you saw it? I was so confused on why JZ kept going into his guard. It was so bizarre considering JZ could beat the piss out of Aoki on the feet. Also if you follow Dream, I got Ishida/Aoki winning the LWGP and Jacare in the MWGP... got any picks? |

I've been watching DREAM on HdNet. I thought the Aoki/JZ fight was all right. What I didn't like was how Aoki kept dropping down and JZ actually went into guard instead of backing away. What I did like was that it was a true testament to martial arts: a smaller, weaker fighter subduing and controlling a much stronger and more aggressive opponent, and that's what martial arts is all about.
As for the rest of the tournaments, I think Jacare takes the middleweight because Sakuraba and Temura have both dropped out. As for lightweight, I'm hoping Alvarez or Hansen winning, so whoever wins that fight is who I'll root for. I don't think Ishida can win and I'm not a huge fan of Aoki.

Really, you don't think Ishida can win? He beat Melendez who is arguably just as good as anyone in this tournament. I don't really like him because he can never finish any fights and all he really has is good wrestling and sub defence.
Aoki comes across as a big dick on television but man, watching him grapple is pretty damn exciting. Wouldn't mind seeing him win just because it would be pretty remarkable to see someone that skinny and frail looking to win a tournament like this. If Jacare can get some good wrestling this guy will be pretty dangerous at 185. Of course if it stays on the feet he'd get demolished |

All of Ishida's fights are decisions. I can see someone getting taken down by Ishida and subbing him off their back. Aoki would and possibly even Hansen. Are you staying out to watch it? Down here it comes on live at 3 A.M. I may wake up to watch it and then go back to sleep.
Here's to hoping Nick Diaz gets a submission in a few hours.

Couldn't stay up and watch it because of work.
Wow, Eddie/Hanson put on one hell of a fight. That was a war with Eddie in my opinion winning the just decision. I guess you were right about Ishida, he got schooled by Uno. I still cannot believe Uno could stop his shots and control him from top/bottom position. Diaz put on a pretty good display, though I still think his boxing can be exploited by a good striker. |

Yeah, Alvarez and Hansen was definitely fight of the year thus far. I was pulling for Eddie but I wasn't sure if he could've done it or not, but he dropped Hellboy three times in the first round. It was an awesome fight to watch.
I knew Ishida wasn't going far, but I will admit, I was very surprised he was taken out by Uno. Did you see Kawajiri staring Uno down after the fight? I hope they fight in the second round. Diaz is one of my favorite fighters but his punching technique is kind of strange. He throws arm punches that aren't very powerful; needless to say, I'm going to be nervous watching him fight Sakurai.

I think I'd cheer for Uno just to see him revitalize his career with two huge wins. The Crusher is definitely tough fighter though - I think he or Aoki wins this thing at this point |

Well, if you weren't aware, Sakurai was recently tapped out to a relatively unknown Frenchman named David Baron, and with Daiz's jiu-jitsu, I think he can tap him out as well, if he doesn't try and stand with him and throw his arm punches the whole fight.
I'm pulling for Alvarez to win it all, but I think Aoki would sub him and Kawajiri would U.D. him, so I don't know who I want to win. I'm actually looking more forward to the MW grand prix at this point.

Jacare for the win in that tourney... well I'm pulling for him anyways. I always love to see exciting and dominant grapplers do well in MMA. |

Stocked for tonight; will probably be the best UFC of the past two years. My picks are the following: Penn, Tito, Jardine, Goran Reljic, Terry Etim, Thiago Silva, Yoshida (over War Machine), and of course, KAZ.

As much as I find Naks antics hilarious, I do believe Soccerjew has the tools to beat him, his lost to Machida may have put him back in the right mentality, and not giving in to his own hype... don't forget that he is renowned for his Judo skills and not his striking.

Holy shit, that was the best UFC event I have ever seen. Every 8 fights shown were incredible. I was wrong on quite a few picks, but I don't care because I'm happy with all the results. Machida looked perfect against Tito (except that triangle at the end, lol), Kaz got outclassed, sadly, Jardine got absolutely murdered, Goran the punk had nice head kicks, and Yoshida choked the hell out of War Machine.
The two best events in the part few years have definitely been Dream.3 and now, UFC 84. Hell yes.
