for five million dollars, could you live in solitude for five years? solitude as in, you get books, pencils and paper, and a musical instrument. you'll eat all your meals through a small window in the wall. no visitors. the door remains unlocked; do you think you could not leave and collect the money?

How big of a room are you talking about and is it completly solid? A large room with windows, books, pencils, paper, and food wouldn't be extremly hard to live in. Now, if it was a confined space with limited light, there's pretty much no way to do it. you'd go insane.

It's not too difficult to live in. All you gotta do is keep your mind occupied. And for 5 years with books and room to move around, that wouldn't be very hard at all.

All I ever do with my days are write, read, and play guitar; so for that bit, I'm set.
As for complete solitude, anyone would go insane. Normally I would never lower myself on the basis of obtaining monetary gain; you'll most likely need to use a bit of that money on counseling, but otherwise why not?

You wouldn't go insane due to solitude if you had the room to move around. If you grow bored in the first month, then there's a possibility you'll go insane, but if you can keep your mind busy, 5 years would be easy.

5 years is a pretty long time. The first year or two would go by at an extremely slow rate, even if you could keep yourself occupied, day in and day out. As for the last year, it might be easier, if you could maintain your mental health throughout the entire 5 years.
