The purpose of a message board is to talk with people.

Lounge = Spam now. There's no arguing against it. Why lock topics then? Kind of contradictory to the reason we're here, right? Just edit/delete posts that are against the rules, don't lock the entire topic, jeez.

When people argue in threads, more people join in, take sides, and the forum gets more activity. (ex: MFG 2.1 - 3.0 Serious debate subforum.) If you close these threads any time one pops up, you strangle the life out of the forum.

People take a look at the lounge, see like 20 new posts in the same old topics, and leave; when they could look at the lounge, see a thread with 5 pages in the last 3 hours, and join in on the argument. That's the fun of a message board.

Stop closing topics plz.

If you're talkin' about the Heath Ledger one that SS2 Vegeto closed, that one was just goin' into an argument between Sloth and Hal. It had nothin' to do with the original topic and would ended up just bein' a flame war with multiple other people laughing.

Also, 5 pages in 3 hours is something that doesn't look fun to me unless I was in it from the begnning. >_>

I'm talking about any topic that gets closed for hardly any reason at all, that one included. why would sloth and hal continue to go at each other if it wasn't entertaining?

closing threads is a contradiction to me. if rules are broken the posts can be deleted, no need to close the thread so others can't voice their opinions.

and don't give me any "Not on topic" BS. about 13% of the threads in ALL of the lounge remain on topic past the 2nd page.

That one had multiple flames in it. Also, I hardly ever see topics that get closed for no reason.

As for deleting posts, that happens multiple times every day. There most likely at least 20 posts deleted a day, if not more. It's much more convienant to lock a thread and let a new kid make one.

no one makes new theads. that's the problem. we're trying to increase activity here, not decrease it. closing threads decreases activity. period. it's a contradiction to posting at all!

what's wrong with flames? this is the spam section. oh, and by "no reason" I meant stupid-as-fuck-excuses to close topic reasons. like someone requested it, or there was a flame. who the fuck cares, it's a forum let people post.

for the amount of users on every night on this forum, there should be a lot more posts than there is. not locking topics would help instead of hinder.

I'm with i16 on this. Closing threads is lame, not only because it brings end to a string of potentially hilarious moments of somebody who can't argue getting their shit ruined (Empathy), but, because, let's face it. Halcyon and I aren't the only ones who argue with people, as much as certain individuals would like to brand us as heretics who do nothing but start shit wherever we go.

The only time a topic should close due to an argument is when it ceases to be entertaining in some way. In other words, none of the threads Halcyon and I have ever posted in.
