Let's move to something that doesn't suck. I won't hack it. I promise. Here's why I think it sucks:

- I changed my avatar. IT CHANGED BACK. Twice. You shouldn't have to do the equivalent of kicking a TV to make it work for your image to change properly.

- The layout is uglier than the result of incestial Chinese crested breeding

- We don't even have a header. It's just an icon of Goku looking like he's eyeing some little boy's ass

- This color scheme is boring. It's put me to sleep and rattled me awake three times just since I started this post. This can't be healthy

- I always receive a big lag spike when I load the board index or a topic, and my internet connection and computer speed are top-notch

- The avatar size limit rivals the girth of my balls, and I can't even use a smaller image without it being forced to a larger size and pixellating it all to hell

- The board index isn't the forum's homepage, which means more clicks, and more needless page loading

- This text editor is just shitty. Period

- These Flash pop-up ads are more annoying than two autistic children having a pillow fight in the next room while you're trying to sleep (though this probably isn't because of the board host itself, they're still really fucking lame).

- The board is only friendly to users of 1024x768 resolution or higher, and not everybody wants to go from 800x600 just to read a message board, meaning I have to constantly scroll to the left and right to read people's posts

- There is no "preview post" function so you can make sure your post is formatted correctly before it is displayed

- The "post points" system is just stupid, and it does not accurately gauge the substance of one's messages. Nobody's going to take the time to think "Hm, whose post should I 'reply' to so they'll get points for -my- reply?"

- You can't see how many posts somebody has unless you specifically view their profile, which is dumb. The number of posts somebody submits is more important than how many "points" they have from somebody replying to them.

And for anybody who replies, spare me the 'beggars can't be choosers' routine. I know the MFG heads have to use ads, but they don't have to use a shitty board host too. I'm sure this discussion has been done to death, but I just had to vent my mild frustration with this clunky interface after remembering that it is why I stopped coming here after MFG 3.0.

There's no part of you original post I didn't enjoy. But, sadly, people will come and bitch perhaps even make a witty comment or two. Then it will turn into anger and frustration where we want to do something and see something being done.
But in the end nothing ever happens and MFG continues to fade away into...well...
Anyway, about your posting problem. First try:
Edit Profile > Site Options tab > Content Editor > Make sure that's set to standard.
Or you could try putting in the breaks manually with that HTML thing in the text formatting bar.
Or switching the content editor option to Plain text and adding the html in.

First, I agree that CS sucks. Second, one of the reasons we switched away from Invision was because it was hacked by someone... Oh, right, that was you. Congratulations on fucking things up for lots of people and wasting a ton of my time.

You were probably experiencing one of the caching bugs with CS. Your first change probably actually worked. It just doesn't look like it worked for up to 10 or 15 minutes. There are lots of parts of CS that work this way. Yes, I agree that it's annoying and shouldn't work that way.

It's better than it used to be, but yes, the current layout still sucks.

Again, it's better than it used to be, but still a long way from where it should be. The colors are the exact same ones used by Invision.

This is one of my biggest issues with CS. It turns out that it doesn't scale very well for larger forums like this one. The problems are on the database side, and unfortunately the CS team doesn't seem motivated to fix them.

In order to use a smaller image, it needs to be hosted somewhere remotely. Then enter the URL of the image instead of uploading it. If you upload an image, it gets resized. If you host remotely, it doesn't. Remote image hosting is also the only way you can use an animated GIF as an avatar.

Agreed, very annoying. The main MFG site links directly to the forum. For regular access, I suggest setting a favorite in your browser.

There are 3 different text editors. I think the advanced one is heavy-weight and slow, but not especially shitty otherwise. Which one are you using?

Yes, there is. On the Add Post page, there's a tab at the top that says "Preview Post". Click on that to see a preview.

The person whose post you reply to no longer gets any points. That was changed some time ago. We also had a topic with a vote on this, the result of which was to keep the points system as is.

Again, replies don't generate points for the author of the replied-to message. Users do get points for things like rating topics, etc, so it's a better indication of overall activity on the forum than just number of posts. Having said that, I'm neutral on the whole points idea. I would be happy with post count alone, but existing users seem to have grown attached to them. Note that points are not used to determine user ranks.

I'm the one-and-only person who can make these kinds of changes. If nothing ever happens, it's either because I don't agree with the change or because I'm too preoccupied with other stuff in my life, or I feel that the people on the forum really don't give a damn anyway, so why should I waste my time. People here love to bitch, but almost no one actually wants to do any work or contribute the time or money it would take to make something happen.

The way things are going now, there's a good chance the forum will be going away in another 4 to 6 months, because I'm getting sick of it and it doesn't come close to carrying its own weight financially. So what could be done to save it? Believe it or not, I'm actually willing to consider switching back to Invision. Is that the right / best choice? How much of a difference would it really make?

If hackers were the only con to the Invision boards, then create a loyal team of anti-hackers who would be undercover. No one but the staff would know who they were and they could monitor the board for hacks, do their best to prevent hacks, and, in the unfortunate event that it was hacked, hack the bejudas out of the hacker(s) and restore the board ASAP. Like a SWAT team of sorts. Get in, solve the problem, get out, all hopefully without public notice. Of course there's the issue of being able to trust a team of people with the abilities to destroy the board that you know by psudonym only.

Lulz...That's kind of a strange idea. That and you'd have to keep these anti-hackers pleased, because if you don't...They'll just end up biting your hands. You can't get pure loyalty over the internet.

We love to bitch and get all angry or hyped up. But even if someone manages to do that and we go on a big ol' posting spree it'll always wear off and in the end we go back to the plain old every day. It's pretty pathetic. (I do it too, I know.)

That is the question of the day now isn't it? If we go back, we'd have to once again start of with an empty board? Yes? Either way...I think it might possibly be for the best. Invision has a lot of fun features that keep members occupied when there's nothing to post about. When people get on it takes them about 5 minutes to surf and find out that there is nothing to talk about, so they would just leave. If there's things to occupy downtime, then they would stay and people visiting would be all like 'Hey, this board has a lot of active members'
That's my not so well thought out theory anyway.

So, I wasn't the -only- reason we switched, meaning I was only partially responsible for fucking things. The rest of it was all you guys. I was generous enough to provide you guys with a security fix after I had a little fun. The choice to switch board hosts, 'fuck things up and waste a ton of time' was entirely yours. I didn't leave a note written in blood on your wall that said "Change board hosts or face the might of my REDRUM, BITCH". Had you consulted me instead of being so quick to pack up move because you potentially saw my actions as something that could be repeated by someone else, I'd have been happy to evulate your forum and search for any other potential holes that you could patch up before anything happened. I've been paid by companies to find server vulnerabilities that may be exploited in the future as hacking methods progress.

Anything can be hacked, and CS is no exception. To be perfectly honest, I'd ordinarily substantiate this post by listing off a few holes in CS itself to prove my point, but I haven't bothered to try sniffing around this place to see if there are any outstanding weak spots. Hacking CS would be like shooting a pellet gun at a fresh pile of dung. I'll give you credit, though. You've accomplished your goal of preventing future hacking incidents, but that's only because any hacker who views this board would feel too sympathetic for the members here to ruin the delicate balance of fun and agony they maintain while posting here. Congratulations on that.



Well, I -do- have a bit of Latina in me. I guess I can contribute my proportionally perky, pasty pale posterior precsiely to those trace genetics. I'm like Jennifer Lopez with talent and a penis, and better looking hair to boot.





For the record, I don't mean any personal disrespect to any of the staff members here. My issues are with CS alone, and your reply has been helpful in solving a few problems I've had with the host, Ace. In insults about CS aside, if you ever consider switching back to Invision or a more friendly host, I'll take a look around and batton down the hatches, and lend my services if another hacker comes along and tries to mess around with things. It wouldn't be the first time I've 'faced off' with another hacker to fend off their attacks. It's just a matter of bending strings of code to counter their bent strings of code. It's like a dick measuring contest, only on an entirely new level of geekery. With that, I'm gonna go hop in the shower. Gotta go to a friend's house so we can work on some music together.
