The Punk Thread

^ I've only heard their Damaged-album, so I don't feel right to judge on such weak basis. Based on the album, they're a fun party punk that you play on the background, but don't even compare to punk's big names. All the songs are too similar, too messy, and the barely-solos are horrible.

I'll get back to you when I've heard the other albums.

Never really heard the Germs before, however I was a bit of a fan of Danzig's 'Mother' However I havent heard any of his other stuff. I still like a fair bit of Misfits stuff and 'Mother' isnt as good IMO.

Punk has never really been much of huge depth of the music I listen to and play; I dont mean that as an insult, but I basically classified most things I liked back then as simple rock... titles for bands music has simply gotten out of hand with all the tripped out categories to try and say what the band sounds like.

Anywho, I see a punk band as being one that says something, usually its about being heard and revolting against something. Whether that something be the government, a war, an idea, hell even against pants for all I care, they revolt and they make themselves heard through their music and its fast and loud sound that says "Fuck you, we'll do it our way!" or just a simple "fuck you and what you do".

Now days however, many bands that are considered punk really make me chern and want to throw my remote at the tv. Bands such as good charlotte and Simple Plan and Blink... these seem to be the new-punk bands. Why do you say... because punk these days is all about image. Fuck what you sing about and what you sound, just dress in leather and chains, get piercings and tatoos, swear a lil bit and make one song that sounds a lil like punk... boom you are officially a punk band.

I cant really say which classic punk bands I liked because I cant really remember a huge amount... ones that spring to mind would have to be: Greenday, Sex Pistols (screw it if they were made that way, I still some of their songs and did pretty good), The Clash, The Misfits, Early Offspring could be seen as punk... gah, I basically just see bands as either they 'Rock' or they dont... so that makes this hard lol.

The Clash is one band that i forgot to mention completely. They were fucking tight musically and personality wise. Sure some of their gear wasnt the most punk sounding, however they did it fucking tough. living in slums and raising a band out of those slums.

However what engel says is basically how I look at music now. I look past the labels and s**t to the sound. Sure I hate the way thet trash like simple plan is refered to as Punk but meh, it doesnt affect me. I rock out with my c**k out and thats all that matters.
