I've watched the Gaming Center board unfold a little bit and I have seen a lot of positive comments on the game: Dragonball Legends. I myself have never played this game before, but I have seen some screen shots.

So to the people who have played this game, what makes it so good? Is it the fighting system, plot, gameplay, etc? It has pretty decent graphics for the PS/Saturn but there has to be something more to it that makes it so much better. Please discuss.

It's just it's system set up and it's simplicity which makes it fun.

The story goes from Nappa to Kid Buu.

Throughout the story mode, in each story mode battle, you have a Character stand by screen. This will show you all the characters you can use in that battle.

For example, against Nappa and Vegeta. In the Character stand by menu, Piccolo, Gohan, Kuririn and Goku will be standing there waiting to be selected. There will be pictures of them standing there with portaits of them on top. They will even talk to each other. Piccolo acts all tough, while Kuririn is rather scared and Goku tries to calm him down.

You can have 3 people battling on screen at once on your team. Meaning you can have 6 people on screen at once all fighting each other.

So let's say against Nappa.
I select Kuririn and have Piccolo be the computer. Kuririn's and Piccolo's portraits will light up and say Active (or something) whilst Goku's and Gohan's will remain dark.

Now the battle.
You have a power up, triangle.
KI Blast, O.
Attack, [].
Guard, X.

Left and right do not do anything. Instead, UP is to move toward opponent and down is move away.

In the battle, it's a huge semi- 3D arena with a very large span. There are various rocks and trees to be plowed through and do some extra damage.

The characters are just 2D sprites. You can super dahs by powering up and moving and you will super rush back and forth.

When you punch, you will throw a flurry of punches or kicks. If you double tap left or right (depending which side the opponent is) you will do a super flurry in which you continue hitting the opponent over and over for a couple of seconds. If you do half circle right, or half circle left you will spin around the opponent bashing the smeg out of them for a couple of seconds.

If you press a direction and [] during Super Flurry or Circle bash you will punch or kick them in the direction. If you press another direction, you will warp behind them and wack them again in that direction making you be able to at least do a 15 combo wack. You can also, wack them away and then redo another super flurry or Circle bash on them again.

Now, you cannot damage the opponent by attacking them. Instead a battle bar is at the bottom. Half is red and half is blue.

As you attack, the blue fills and vice versa for the opponent being red.
When you fill the bar with blue completely, your character will do a super attack. This is what hurts the opponent. The camera zooms around your character (or opponent if he's the one doing it) and watch your power up your move and then fire it. Your opponent cannot block this as it's kind of a cinematic.

Different character's do more or less damage with their specials.

Punch's fill the bar very little.
Super Flurry fills it slowly.
Circle bash fills it fast.
Super blow fills a chunk.

So if you did a super flurry, then a super blow then combo it into another super flurry and then a circle bash you will fill the bar quite fast.
Think of the bar as a power struggle bar.

Different characters fill the bar more or less. Kuririn fills it really slowly whilst Vegetto fills it really fast.

Also during the story battles, if you do certain things like in the Manga, certain things happen.
EG, during the fight with Frieza, have him kill Kuririn and Goku will go SSJ.


So there is only 1 attack button basically and very little attack patterns but it's so fluent and basic that it's actually fun and having 6 people all at once kick the crap out of each other is great.

It's just a shame that this game is the only one not to be translated and brought to American and European Playstation when it's the best PS DBZ game whilst Final Bout and Ultimate Battle were.

From your description, the game does sound quite good. So is legends playable on the computer? Or do you own a PS disc of it?

Anyway, I've heard of this game, and it sounds like what you said is simmilar to what I was told.

Also forgot to mention. In the battles, you can do 1 vs 3 or whatever if you like. You don't have to even out the numbers.
Fighting Jeice and Burter at once with just Goku is pretty damn fun.

There is also the VS mode. So you pick any up to 3 characters you like abd battle another up to 3.

I remember playing that game...it was by far the best game on playstation Definately better than Final Bout.
The most fun fight in that whole thing was, IMO, fighting Frieza with Goku;though for me, that was because I was trying to play with Vegeta and Goku, but knocked Veggie off.
Can you buy this game anywhere anymore?

Nope it's a super rare collectors item now. You may be lucky in purchasing it on some Japan import sites, but it'll be low in quantity.
