The death penalty solves nothing... look at the american states that have it... how high is their crime rate? HUGE!!
there really is nothing much that can be done because the people who commit these crimes don't give a flying f**k about what happens to the or anyone else untill it comes to facing up to what they've done... and the it's too late... trust me I'm a barrister (british equivalent of a lwayer) so I know... once an offender always an offender.

BOMB THE PRISONS AND KILL 'EM ALL... if only... if only.

I would say until the future when we can alter a persons mind the prison systems will continue to be just as flawed as ever.

Altering a person's mind is horrible. A person is a person no matter who they are. You can't force them to change. I believe criminals deserve a choose, live or die? It's all a matter of whether they'd like to rot in prison or be killed and have it all over with.

As bad as it may seem, I'm sure people would find content with seeing the person they hate dying. I know I would.I sure as hell wouldn't. I'd rather see regret on their face. Death is too easy a punishment. I'd rather see them stuck with nothing but their thaughts in prison.

I don't think prison is harsh enough. Honestly, they get cable, they get better food, always wear clean cloathes. I've lived in lower circumstances and I've never even brokken a Blue Law!

Murderers=Life in Prison. No TV, no human contact. Just them in a small room to eat their bread and drink their water once a day.

Rapists=Castration.

Child Molesters=Both life in prison AND castration.

Thief=A fine as long as no one was hurt. I agree that stealing is wrong but they normally aren't bad. They steal then we throw them in prison with the hardened criminals? That's not right.

Serial Killers=I agree with the Death Penalty for these guys because they have no remourse and are too dangerous to keep around.

YES!! Do any of you remember the two girls who got murdered in Soham by that wanker Ian Huntley... they spent millions of pounds of our tax money to build him a special cell with it's own gym and loads of other facilities so thatthe other prisoners didn't cut his balls off for raping two girls... THAT'S NO PUNISHMENT THAT'S A FUCKING HOLIDAY CAMP.... I'LL BET HE LOVED IT THERE CUZ HE KNEW THAT WHEN HE GOT OUT ALL THE PEOPLE WOULD BE WAITING FOR HIM.

And what pisses me off about the prison system most of all is that WE are the ones that pay for all their luxuries... their sky TV and s**t. CAN YOU TELL THIS PISSES ME OFF!!!

^ Thy 18 smilies spake for themselves.

And I agree with prisons being too tame - It's all got to do with the new trend in preserving any human rights. Even needles used for death penalties are carefully disinfected before injecting the deadly dose. Ever seen "Papillon"? That's effective prison-function, alright. But it didn't cure anyone any better, most died in their cells. I still believe prison isn't able to scare a man to choose the straight path on itself. Ex-con becoming superdad, simply because of a traumatizing prison experience? Doesn't fit my mind. The most effective influence a prison can have on a man, I believe, is the hours and hours he has "free" time to think about his life. Some can come to their senses, and realize the way they've wasted years off their lives. That I support, and prison is the best way to achieve it.

When prisons are made more comfortable to be in, the people complain. When they are made more severe, human right -protestors complain. What is ridiculous is that the biggest and worst criminals are actually given the best cells - Your case in Supreme Court -> 52 cable channels and a sexy waitress available 24/7.

How is that supposed to make them fear conviction?

Harsher or not harsher, that's not the problem- the problem is the whole system. Making them worse wouldn't solve anything, people who break laws don't do prison research before they do. We'd need to think of a radical new system that makes them see what they did was wrong and change them into a good person, but the problem with that is many people just do not give two fucks about anything, so what do you do with a person like that?

Somehow I doubt you've ever seen a person you hate die. So you don't know what you'd really feel until it happened.

Why should these people be given a choice, after what they've done?
