Can You Remember?
Written By: Darth SidiousCan you remember Summerslam of '91? To me, the highlight of that PPV was The Texas Tornado vs. Mr. Perfect - the Upset Match. Lets see, was it Terri Von Erich, the Texas Tornado, beat Mr. Perfect in less then...5 minutes? Beat him with the Tornado Claw, I think it was called. Then Mr. Perfect had the gall to say "it was an unfair win! We had no time prepare!" Pfft...sore losers. Then the main event of the night, if I recall correctly, was The Ultimate Warrior vs. Sgt. Slaughter for the World Championship Belt. Excellent fight; two veterns giving us a spectacular fight. However, disappointed by Slaughters win at the time, I look back on it and see: "wow, what a match!" You look back at the mach and you see the geniusness of it. It pitted Ultimate Warriors spaztic style vs. Slaughters Military fighting. And it worked to, surprisingly. Amateur Wrestling mixed win a bit of Military Fighting provide for a spectacular match. It countered Warriors style perfectly and really balanced out the man. For a moment though I truly though Warrior was gonna win it. Then he got crowned by the iraqian manager. Poor Warrior. - - - Can you remember Wrestlemania VII of that year? The Return of Hulkamania was its dubbed title. With Sgt. Slaughter in the reigns, an Iraqi supporter, they needed an all American Hero to wipe the floor with him. Who better to get then Hulk Hogan? The True American Hero. This was a classic folks. This show cased some of the greatest skills Hogan had, along with Slaughter. It was the Showdown of the Countries, Battle of Good and Evil. As always, in the end, Good won. Our American Hero looked doomed in the match and it looked as if Sergant Slaughter would be too much for him. But then, like America, pulled himself together and rallied the American People behind him into the force of a Big Boot. A Mighty Leg Drop ended the struggle and he brought us all home and into a new era. - - - Can you remember Wrestlemania VI? Some dub this the greatest Wrestlemania ever because of its main event. For the first time in history it was Title vs. Title - Champion vs. Champion. It pitted the Technical Skills of Hulk Hogan vs. the Spaztic, uncontrolable and unpredictable style of Ultimate Warrior. No match in the history of the WWF/WWE has gotten better then this match - not the HBK - Hart Ironman Match, not Hart vs. Piper IC Title Match...and not even Hart vs. Flair WWF Title Match. This was two veterns, two heros, two icons, two LEGENDS duking it out before...what was it? 75,000 people? 65,000? Something along those lines. Watch that match again. The crowd was awe-struck, incapable of thoughts or words at that moment. All eyes were on this match. This one single moment that would become the greatest match in history. And in the end...The Warrior...prevailed. - - - Can you remember...was it Summerslam of '92? Or was it the Summerslam of '90? Now that I think about it, I think it was Summerslam of '90 - The Untertaker vs. The Immortal Hulk Hogan. For weeks the Undertaker stalked Hogan, threatening him withevery bit of his power he had. Choked him out in front of millions, sneak attacks, even had help from Ric Flair. It all came to head in Summerslam of '90, I believe. Hogan swore he would put the Undertaker down. I mean, everyone believed him. They knew it would happen. Hogan's never failed before! He conquered bigger giants then Undertaker! King Kong Bundy, Andre the Giant. But the Immortal One was finally laid to rest by The Undertaker. But he couldn't do it alone. At the ending of the match, when Hogan came back to win it, Flair interrupted and Taker quickly switched the roles of the match and tombstoned him, head first, on a chair. Taker took the belt that night and forever buried an Icon... - - - These are simple gestures, simple things for people to remember. This was when the WWF, WWE, whatever you wanna call it, was Golden. This, simply put, ladies and gentleman...is what needs to be remembered. This is what made Wrestling...and we, the fans, owe everything to them. But it is my time to sign off...but before I go... Can you remember...Wrestlemania VIII - Bret Hart vs. Rowdy Roddy Piper? I do... Sincerely, Darth Sidious (If you don't mind, please comment ^^) |

I remember most of that, but it wasnt as great as you made it out to be. Hogan and Warrior were both two of the worst wrestlers to ever hold the title. What made that match memorable was the crowd that was split 50/50 on what side they were on. The atmosphere made the match, not the two men in the ring.

How can you say that? Yeah, I agree the crowd helped make the match, but it was also the wrestlers skills in the ring. Hogan and Warrior proved time and time again they are the best wrestling had to offer (yes, people will argue that, but I mean for their time).

Naw thats definitely not true...Bret Hart, Ric Flair, Savage, Davey Boy Smith, Ricky Steamboat, etc were so ahead of Hogan & Warrior in the ring. Hogan has always gotten by from his personality just like HBK said on RAW tonight. It's always been the same routine....punches, big boot, leg drop, pin. Warrior got over from his energy, and I admit I was a fan back in the day. But lookin back on him and that match they are both extremely overrated IMO. |
