Default Advice from college people

Okay, I know there are some people who might be taking that first step to graduation if they haven't already. I have had some problems with students who are not taking college seriously and I have to warn you that college is a big step and it is a big deal for those in the know.

First off, there are those who think, "I may not need this class," and drop it like a hot potato. First off, DON'T. Granted you have financial aid, but if you do not have your 12 units you will lose it. If you are paying out of pocket for your classes, you will not get that money back. Sorry, Charlie. No refunds.

My school costs about $18 a unit and we are fighting the system to keep it lower. But the students are not helping any better by just dropping a class or not bothering to go at all. This $18 a unit does not include the cost of the textbook or supplies, which will run you about $200. Fortunately there's a program that helps you pay for these supplies and books but you have to qualify for this and it is not available in the middle of the semester *Summer school year* Our program is called Extended Opportunities Programs and Services (EOPS).

I hope this information helps and maybe other people can share about the colleges in their area and what they know about going to college. Believe me guys it's a great big world out there.

You forgot to mention that in most courses if you want to either transfer or continue on to the next course, English 101 to English 102, you have to have at least a C which I didn't realize until later in the year.

When i first went to college..... i went to go for a course which i had to do a 2 year course to get to in the first place... and the course that lead to was 3 years..... in all you basicly get a degree for a 5 year course.

It is hard work and you have to stick at it, don't slack off and you will get futher in life than some people might do in their jobs after you graduate. You could get a better job than someone who graduated and went straight to a job rather than carrying on his/her education.

Just my 2 cents anyway....

This is part of the reason I'm just joining the army. Once I do that, if I decide it's not for me, then I can go back to school, any university/college in Canada and it's paid for. But I think I'm gonna stay in the army, if I do, I'm retired at like 35.

I cant really offer much helpful advice because you have a different schooling system n such. Ours seems to sound quite different; either way what i can say is dont feel screwed if you have your whole life planned. If you dont know what you wanna do then its not the end of the world... i went through about 3 choices before im on the one i am now... and all in the space of the first semester lol.

Sometimes what you think you love turns out sour, dont get freaked out just keep a cool head and such.

Also dont light your head on fire with mozzy spray. While it is quite amusing it leaves one hell of a stench behind lol - useful advice from uni student.

Well ill give you all a different perspective, i decided not to go to Uni coz of the debt i would be in after i left, if i went when i came out i would have been 20-30K in the whole and i decided not to start my life out like that, instead i went to work to gain experiance which can sometimes be just as good as a degree

Actually, I can offer you guys some consolation for those in the military. In the Fort Irwin Area, you don't go to college; the college comes to you. At least you can get some form of education while you are on the base. Either that, or you can also apply for online courses while you are on the base. You don't have to drive to the school to turn in your homework because the teachers will pick and choose their days to come out to the base to lecture. How cool is that?
