Trunks wasn't a SSJ2 when he fought Cell. Trunks never achieves SSJ2.

Yes, he does. His hair had a huge change, just compare them, flopped to dead straight, yellow to gold, that is SSJ2. Plus, when Trunks was USSJ he had long hair, so since it was so long it wouldn;t stand up like an SSJ2.

no. trunks never goes ssj2. no electricity=no ssj2. the difference in hair was just AT adjusting trunks to his new art style.

It's in the same chapter/episode. Plus, Gohan didn;t have electrisity when he fought Dabura so that throws that out the window.
