Mario Vs Sonic
You would have to look at them individually. Mario may be large, but definitely not out of shape. Also, he has more powerups than just the mushroom. Like the fire flower or the star. If you go by Mario in his prime, he would have a very large assortment of powerups from 3 and Worlds. Also he has Yoshi, who can deal out the hurt. His swallow technique is quite good, and can stomp hard.
On the other hand, Sonic has speed, lots and lots of speed. But thats about it. You don't really see any power from him. Tails could build some weapon or something, but thats it. Mario has a very big advanage, even with just the mushroom, flower and star. So my vote goes to Mario. |

based on what SSJ_Vegeta said mario could use the star and sonic assuming that the laws of phyics apply he is rushing at mario and cant stop then bam
