And I'm the Managing Editor for a video game news site. I actually speak to the game companies, do you? Yes, MS is looking into ti but is doing no more than that. I'm telling you, if they emulate the nVidia chip set, MS will get sued and the emulation system will get removed. Xbox is still a market profitable electronic for NVidia. Emulation of that chipset will be seen as removing money from nVidia's income stream by illegal means. PS: The Cell processor will not even be ready for mas production until late 2005 to early 2006. Don't believe me, ask IBM. |

As a matter of fact, yes, I do. I have been to 3 private game conventions in the last 2 years courtesy of Gamestop where there were many game developers. The thing is though, you stated that the Xenon would not be backwards compatible as a fact when that call can certainly not be made so soon. I never said Xenon would be backwards compatible, I was simply disagreeing with the fact that you said it wouldn't. |

And it won't be. nVidia will see to that.
Facts: Xbox uses a graphics chip from nVidia To make Xbox 2 backwards compatable with Xbox would require the emulation of the chip set by nVidia used in Xbox, including the emulation of shaders, texture render units, source lighting and more micro-code. Use of these nVidia properties or emulation of them without nVidias expressed consent is illegal. **** GamesIndustry.biz has now learned that senior executives at the company don't believe backwards compatibility to be an important feature for consoles. The company apparently believes that allowing consumers to play existing Xbox titles on the next-generation hardware would not be a significant deciding factor for Xenon purchasers." **** Also note the Xbox is x86 based hardware and the Xenon is Virtual PC. That again brings up more issues than its worth. |

The key piece of info there is "Senior Executives". What the hell do they know about what people want in their next-gen console. Backwards compatibilty will be a huge deciding factor for me when the next-gens begin to appear and I think a lot of people will agree. I think it would be ideal to introduce backwards compatibilty to attract customers who have never owned an Xbox and would like to play the Xbox only titles they missed out on in addition to new Xenon games.

Only 7% bought a PS2 with intent to use the backwards compatable feature. That isn't very much and with MS trying to cut costs down, the addition of emulation would drive the cost back up and would only appeal to a limited number of gamers, approximately 7% +-.
Does that sound like it's worth facing a huge lawsuit from nVidia to you? |

^ not as much as Sony does...just think about this...Sony makes theworst quality systems...that break easily/fast...and then you people(the stupid ones who did this) go out and buy another one...Sony just wants money...and does whatever they have to do to get it...

The only reason some of the PS2's broke is because they messed up making it for their edition 1 things. They fixed them and they don't break anymore unless you abuse them. I have a friend that has had 2 of his Xbox's break and he never carries it around or plays on it a whole lot. Xbox and PS2 are about the same quality in breaking, but I've never heard of a Gamecube breaking.
Anyways back on topic, I'm going to laugh so much if Xbox 2 looks like the picture CyborgHitman put up. I mean seriously, it's just a computer tower thats really kool looking, with controllers to plug into it. |

Ummm...let me put it this way...for every XBOX that breaks...3-5 PS2s break...Sony has already been accused of putting faulty hardware in there PS2s...by many gamecompanies...just like how there putting an OPTICAL DRIVE in a handheld...that alone will make PSP sales skyrocket...because plenty of people will drop there PSPs...and just buy another one...Sony is the worst company to buy Game consoles/handhelds from...and noone really notices this...
