The main thing is the stars from today will not be remembered in 20...no...10 years. But the people of the 60s, 70s and some of the 80s will be remembered forever.

It's hard to compete with the bands/vocalists who defined genres.

Not true, I'll remember The Killers, The Strokes, Arctic Monleys, Maroon 5(ducks at the beer bottles thrown at him) and I'll remember Tool, The White Stripes, System of a Down, Radiohead, TV on the Radio and The flaming Lips... forever.

Hell... It might even take 10 years to get Paramore out of my head, granted, that's mainly only because hayley williams is such a cutie, but the same can be said about Madonna. =/

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that people are so used to being told what to like and dislike that when they realize that what they are being told to like is actually commercialized crap; they say that certain genre is dying.

Truth is, good music is out there, in all genres you just have to be willing to look for it.

The Arctic Monkeys aren't worthy of being remembered though.

Well, considering that their career is far from being over, and that I happen to love ''whatever people say i am, that's what im not'', then I'll just have to disagree with you.

I guess when you think about what is 'in' now, System of a Down might be remembered years down the road. Sadly, they're the only band I can really pin that title on.

Personal preference bud, not saying they're indie gods or anything, just saying in my book, they will be rememberd.

Well see there's a large part of the problem, people are looking at what is ''in'' now and so no other bands go noticed.

Good, remarkable music is out there.

If people like what they have they don't really have a reason to go searching for other music. I'm not saying that other bands don't deserve to be in the running, but if people know a certain band that makes music they can appreciate, why would they want to forgo that certain band's music?

Not everyone is willing to search around for good music. Some bands just have to get lucky.

Edit: JhonCaves, remember to edit when possible.

Bands these days won't be remembered EVER!!! No one will know who they are. Some have hit singles then die off the next year. Like some bands today.

Agreed. Anything created after the 80's was over instantly became void.

I guarantee you that fifteen years from now VH1 will make a special called 'I Love the 00's', followed by '100 greatest songs of the 00's''

and we will all watch it and lull in unison cuz we remember them.

Of course, but it will not be as successful or great as the "I Love the 80's" and "100 greatest songs of the 80's" editions. =/

Rock died right after GNR shut down officially.
