As you all know, some series of games have way too many games. What do you think about this, I mean, some have been around for almost 20years and hardly changed. Off the top of my head, here are some overused franchises:
The Legend of Zelda, Mario, Final Fantasy, Sonic, Pokémon, Megaman, Street Fighter. Of course there are a few more but they were just the first ones that came to my mind. Mario- I personally enjoy the ''real'' Mario games such as Sunshine, 64, Galaxy, World etc. I despise all the other ''spin-offs'' though, there are just too many of them. How many Mario Party now? 10?? It seems Mario will play every single existing sport, what's next after Mario BasketBall(or whatever it is called)? Mario Curling? Mario Horseriding? Don't get me wrong, his real games are always great, innovative and a breath of fresh air but all these crappy side games make you say ''No Mario, no.'' The Legend of Zelda- I won't hide it, it's by far my favourite series ever and it will forever remain the greatest series of all time for me. Only thing though, they do too many 1.5 Zelda. By 1.5 I mean, most games if not all official Zelda games are great, it's just that, some could have been left as ideas. Majora's Mask was better than OOT but it looked way too much like it, that's why it failed to deliver a whole new experience. Wind Waker was pretty good and somehow new but in my opinion, it wasn't necessary. They aimed for the big hit with TP, unfortunately, it failed in my opinion, there was just too many great games and it was overshadowed. We must all face it, Zelda was once the most enormous franchise when it was OOT's time, but now, it's just a popular franchise that pretty much lost its magic touch. Final Fantasy- Look, I hate these games so I'll make it quick. Don't call FFXII that way, it has nothing to do with FFXII. Why do I despise these games? Simple, TBG(Some knows what it means), in my opinion, there are way too many of them. That's it, I won't go any further. Megaman- It was once one of the best platformers of its time, it was only you, and your mega buster. One of the most difficult games back then, the level of frustration it brought when impossible bosses owned you but then you got their weakeness and suddenly, the fight was in your favor. As of today, it's pretty much a shadow of its former self, they try to put it back on the map, but we all know its time is over and it will never be as great as before. Sonic- Like Mario but much much faster AND better? Fuck YEAH! He's blue, he runs faster than the speed of sound, he can become super sonic, he rolls and dash so fast that you can't control him? That's the feeling Sonic gave us back then. He was Mario's greatest rival and his games were awesome. Mario did an excellent transition in the 3D world, Sonic...not as much. I think the first Sonic for the DC was great but that's about it. Sega crumbled, they started to do multiple plateforms Sonic games, you felt these games had no heart and soul, they were tedious, the controls were awful, they were impossible to play. We used to think you were as great as Mario Sonic, but now, you fell to a level even lower than Bomberman's. Pokémon- Call me a hypocrite...I love the handheld games, the rest is crap, enough said. Street Fighter- Shirogetsu, it's your call.

I never hear anyone complain about Street Fighter games. Never. Maybe every player is a hardcore fanboy fan. I don't know, but it seems that something is going on with them and the games they're producing that makes then a win each time. I've thought that a handful of SF games seem to be indentical. The last game I played was on the GBA, SF:Turbo.
I don't play FF, never did and never will but it seems to be more of a phenomenon than the others in a way. I mean I like Pokémon games and I get them just to pass the time these days and see the new Pokedex, but people who wait for FF almost wet themseles in anticipation. Pokémon - I don't know. I don't know if they CAN come up with any more new nd credible monsters, I mean another 150 after Platinum is groanworthy. I prefer real Mario games, though I have enjoyed some of the games that feature mario, like the football ones. But I'd rather they focus more on Mario standalone games. I don't even pick Mario in Super Smash Bros or other games =/

MM>>All other Zelda games, followed closely by LttP
Mario was fun during it's 2-D years. Now it's just been driven into the ground. I never consider a franchise overused except for Mario as he's been commercialized to hell and back now.

Did anyone ever think about how much the companies don't give a shit if something's overused? They know people are going to buy anything from those franchises, so why not whore it?
Money's money.

Yeah i agree that some spinoffs of popular franchises are over used, however, from a business stand point, if it sells, then why not continue sellings these spinoffs. It's all about profit.

Pretty much every Metal Gear Solid game has had several new things implemented to keep it fresh.
I'll just compare the 3D ones. Metal Gear Solid 1 - PS1 -Pressing against walls -Flipping soldiers over -Punch-punch-kick -Choking out/snapping necks -Over the head shooting with the exception of Nikita Launcher, Stinger Launcher, and PSG1 -Knocking -Noisy floors/puddles -Radar -Cardboard fucking boxes Metal Gear Solid 2 - PS2 -Rolling -First person shooting -Hanging on ledges -Chin ups -Holding up guards -Human shields -Bomb diffusing -Gun magazines and pornography magazines -Stashing soldiers in lockers/hiding in lockers -Soldiers (that aren't the attack soldiers) have to call in in order for you to get into alert mode -Soldier disguise -Location-specific damage -Putting enemies to sleep/boss stamina -Walking (lol) -Popping around corners -Shooting enemy radios -Swimming -High frequency blade -Destructible surroundings (in some areas) -Destructible cardboard boxes Metal Gear Solid 3 - PS2 -Interrogating soldiers -Camo system/disguises with different effects -Stamina system (and by association, hand shakiness, stomach growling, Snake's posture, length of hanging/swimming duration) -Hunting for food/mousetraps -Items replacing standard radar (sonar, motion detector) -CQC -Grabbing soldiers while holding certain weapons -Shooting while using a human shield -Using directional pad to sneak up on soldiers, while before you could simply walk up to them -New types of weapons (knife, torch, knock-out cigarettes, knock-out handkerchief, venomous animals, fork, grenade variants) -Explosive barrels -New visual/audio effects (white glow taking over the area rather than a flash from grenades/explosive barrels, stun grenades making your sight/hearing go away if you look at them/are in proximity of them) Metal Gear Solid 4 - PS3 -Play entirely in FPS? (I believe Metal Gear Solid: Integral had a cheat to do this) -Pat down enemies -???? (haven't played MGS4, so I can't say what all is there) Not to mention they all had boss soundtracks and interesting codec conversations. Either way, I wouldn't say MGS games are "rehash."
